I've stayed in Varkala on numerous occasions and Kaiya House is easily the best place I've stayed. It's clean, mosquito proof and attractively set out. It feels spacious with several nice areas to sit, eat, practice yoga, watch birds or do whatever you like. The breakfasts are splendid and give one a chance to eat proper Keralan home cooked food. Kaiya House is also really good value for money. Not only do you get a room and the great breakfasts, but drinks are provided at every opportunity, Debra gives all her guests a guided tour of Varkala and acts as an unpaid travel agent. She took us to local festivals which we wouldn't have found on our own and generally was incredibly helpful and friendly, without ever being intrusive. We'll be back next year if we're lucky enough to get a room. Book now to avoid disappointment!
