I stayed at windsor rajdhani with my family from Jan 12-15 (2014)- and I have to say - it is one of the better star hotels in Trivandrum. The hotel is located in Kowdiar- a short distance from Narmada Shopping Complex, and there are autos and taxis available all the time- and the security staff do help a great deal by flagging down vehicles for the guests conveyance- it really was a nice gesture on their part. I now proceed to narrate my experience.
The booking was done electronically (email and phone) and the booking managers were very efficient and courteous. They offered a very good deal on the room tariff and also allotted us adjoining connected rooms which was well appreciated. They also offered airport pickup facility at a rate of Rs.800 - which was a tad over the Rs. 650 (from the airport prepaid counter). The Hotel group has more establishments in the city- in the busier areas- however, my vote goes to the Kowdiar one- as it is quite peaceful, non clogged by busy traffic and easily accessible.
The hotel has a desk at the airport where one can make reservations and inquiries. (10/10)
The check-in process was quick, and our luggage was delivered to our rooms quite carefully. The reception staff were crisp and efficient. The hotel lobby was done up well, with a huge golden pendulum clock as the centerpiece. I guess foreigners do go in for that sort of thing. The Keycards worked well and the rooms were done up quite satisfactorily, and we were happy with the room size as well- never felt claustrophobic, and the room had an excellent view of the swimming pool. Air Con worked well.(10/10)
The furnishing was sober and practical. The bed was king size in one room and twin in the other. A point I would like to bring to the managements notice is that periodic checks should be carried out on the wooden furniture and railings on the ceiling, where I did find the occasional crack (above the mini bar). The hotel corridors were clean and non carpeted (which is nice). The beds were soft and sheets were clean and fitted well. The bathroom was clean, and had a tub. The hotel did provide soaps and shampoos, but dental kit was provided only on request. As in other reviews- I did not find a tissue roll in the bathroom. (9/10)
The swimming pool (on the 4th floor) was clean and non covered- it was good in a way that the exposure to the sun did keep the water warm at all times, The pool had deep and shallow ends. The pool was also cleaned daily and inspected for cracks and debris by the staff (I saw this myself- and found it an excellent measure). (10/10)
We ordered room service, and the food- although priced a bit on the higher side- was prepared well and quite tasty. I am a foodie myself- and thoroughly enjoyed the dishes. The waiters were also well trained. The morning buffet breakfast on the 9th floor was complimentary, and the spread was quite good. The chef at the live cooking counter was very good in preparing dishes as requested by us. We tried the breakfast on 3 days, and were satisfied with it. The major domo was quite friendly, and helped us by entertaining our kids, thus allowing us to dine in peace. All our requests were complied with. The restaurant named 'Bamboo' was also quite nice- although we felt it required a dash of brightness. The food was prepared well and there was nothing to complain. For dinner I had ordered a steak, but there was no proper 'steak knife' and so I had to make do with ordinary cutlery- I think the management should take note of this and procure some steak knives- since they also serve foreigners. (10/10)
Wi-fi was availed by me for 1 day, and It was priced at Rs.125. i had inquired about the range, and was told that it would be quite good in my room. The accessibility was fine, but the speed was very slow. The TV was big, but the channels on offer were not that great. (7/10)
The Overall experience was excellent, and I must say that the management has done a good job. I had previously stayed in SP grand days, but would definitely prefer Windsor Rajadhani from now on, as it scores over its competitor in many areas. So an overall (10/10) form my side.
Keep up the good work.
Suggestions for the management: 1) Provide more toiletries for bigger families. 2) Have cutlery apt for different kinds of food served in the restaurants. 3) Have a better television channel spread with HD video. 4) Have flotation devices for children who use the pool. 5) Maintain furnishing in the rooms with care. 6) High speed internet is a must, and make it complimentary.
Go for rooms in the 5th floor, preferably pool facing ones.
