I stayed her in low season and paid a very high price for a room into a lane when most of the good rooms were empty. Added an extra day and the manager asked me to pay the price I had paid to the Agoda website before! The extra cash was for who? The manager was unable to help with basic needs like knowing when the main door locks at night. I came back one night at midnight to find it locked, rang the manager 20 times, no reply and waited 45 minutes outside before anyone came to answer.
He pushed for consumption of "ayurvedic" massage and restaurant outings on the high season price. Very poor management indeed. On Sunday, at 7am, he chants so loud that no one can keep sleeping.
House keeping was basic and breakfest very basic indeed. No wifi in room. I paid $40/night!
Be careful with massages, they use rancid coconut oil which may have ayurvedic "medicine" in it? but really you need a long shower afterwards and they rub it deep into your scalp and hair also. Absolutely bargain for everything, in every single shop. I managed to get a boat ride down to 600 rps from 3000. Santana restaurant next door has excellent fish cooked in the banana leaf and served on it. A delight.
A must: climb to the top of the lighthouse, it's a gorgeous view and great fun.
Rooms in town with a view and a bath are between 350 and 700 rupees, the upper end of it also in high season. So ask around, locals are helpful.
Nice cafes on the seafront and a walk on the beach early morning or at sunset are fantastic. So are your walk in the little alleyways.
Enjoy your stay and don't get tricked!
bargain for the price and demand sea view
