“Okay-nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

I have read the other reviews but didn't think this place was anything special. The place is a bit on the old and tired side, breakfast was not great-small amount of scrambled eggs, toast ( cant eat- am gluten intolerant) and tea- have had much better in other places. Didn't find the owner helpful at all, he tried to sell us all the day jeep tour (which started at 5.30am!) and when we said we went interested he lost interest in helping us. the best thing was the great water pressure and there were wild black monkeys in the trees outside our room. wouldn't go back- saw nicer looking places such as Chrissy's.

Green View is a Lovely place! It's nice and simple and it's perfect if you aren't looking for something grand. There is Wi-fi although only accessible at the main entrance. I thought this was a good thing, because it made us go out and experience the town or nature and enjoy our stay instead of catching up on what was going on at home. And because it is at the entrance we had the pleasure to meet Suresh, the owner, as much as possible! Suresh really makes this place shine! He has an attitude like no other! He can see the light in any darkness and knows how to make you happy. Be nice to him and he will be wonderful to you!
The rooms at the place were Very nice and! There were great balconies with comfortable hanging chairs where you can sit and relax! Most balconies were facing the 'forest', although some were facing the street. The hotel was located only a few metres away from a fruit-bat pilgrimage which occured every evning at dusk! The view was spectacular, either from the balconies, where you could sit in the chair, or the roof!
Bathrooms were very good! Like most hotels in India, there wasn't much toilet paper. It wasn't a problem asking Suresh about for more, it was a pleasure! Although breakfast wasn't included in the stay, the 'indian breakfast' which was avaliable was delicious, and plenty to keep you full until lunch!
The location of the hotel was great, on a backstreet, far from traffic but close to the city center.
This was by far the best hotel we stayed at on our vacation in Kerala.
Thank you Suresh and Green View! You are amazing!

We were recommended this place by a fantastic homestay in Cochin. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. We felt it was more of a soulless hotel than homestay as it was much bigger than expected and the owners aren't very friendly or welcoming. The issues included being quoted as 1000 rupees per night then charged 1500 per night when leaving which they claimed was for taxes and breakfast however we never had breakfast (its not included in the price as previously specified) and they never mentioned taxes previously. When we disputed this the owners just kept giving silly excuses like 'Did you book through an agency? .. thats why its more' and we were like 'no we booked through you!' Otherwise the rooms are fine and good balcony but we felt cheated by the owners. Also for those hoping to use WIFI this isn't the place for you as there is only very slow connection if you sit out the front of the owners door and it only works at certain times of the day like when there was no light and lots of bugs. Finally just to let people know there are no double beds its all twin beds. We met some people in town who stayed at Mickeys and it sounded like a more authentic homestay so we would recommend staying there if you can. Periyar is great though! We enjoyed the hikes and park and massages were cheaper than on the Indian coast.

This hotel is brilliant. It's central to everything, the breakfast is good and the owner is the friendliest man in India he couldn't do enough for us no matter what time of night and recommended his other hotel in Munnar which was also nice. Wifi wasn't the best but only a minor issue

The rooms are simple yet with some nice touches - especially the balconies. The staff helped us arrange tours in the park and transportation to our next destination. Plain breakfast is made to order. We could only use the wifi while sitting next to the "front desk" (not in the room).

This stay was one of the best ones during our vacation in Kerala in December 2013-January 2014. The owner, Suresh, is an amazingly positive person and is now our new role model :-) Green View has a perfect location, is nice and clean, comfortable beds and a very good price. Some of our most fantastic memories are the evening at the roof of Green View watching the thousands of bats flying from one of the valleys to another. For us that was most impressive. Kumily is also a very nice town with a nice atmosphere. We stayed for three nights but could easily have stayed longer - much thanks to Suresh and his wife´s friendly atmosphere they created. We are thinking of visiting Suresh place in Munnar next time we go to Kerala.
Suresh also has good ideas about what to do in the area and recommended a good spice shop where we got a stock of spices for the next many, many years.
Our memories from Suresh and Green View will be brought out when we need some extra positive thoughts and spirit. Thank you for a lovely and memorable stay :-)
