“Sleep in the treetops”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2009

This accommodation is tucked into the side of a steep hill, in small apartment blocks. The room ws spacious if a little old fashioned. The bathroom was huge. Towels were a little grey. The evening meal was served by the pool down lots of steep steps which were slippy when wet and the only alternative was room service. We ate from the a la carte menu, as the barbecue was scheduled for later on and the arrangements were a bit unclear. Unfortunately by the time the barbecue was up and running it poured with rain and everything had to be cleared away again. There was entertainment by two young dancers. This hotel would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Stafff were all very friendly.

The hotel has a good location with a good view of the hillside forests. But that is about all that goes for this hotel. We booked for two nights between 16th to 18th Dec in a deluxe room, but were rather disappointed with our stay. They gave us room number 110, which was the 1st floor of the 10th block (the hotel has 33 rooms in11 of 3-storey blocks; each block has one room in each of the three floors). Our room had a dirty gray cement mosaic finish (and the finish is also not very smooth – obviously the builder had not done a good job when polishing the mosaic); also you have to climb down a staircase to reach the 1st floor; coupled with the poor flooring in the rooms it gave a very grim feel to the room making it appear almost like a dungeon. It is also very difficult to keep the floor clean as it gathers dust in the rough surface of the floor – or maybe it had something to do with the quality of the housekeeping which is not very good either. We soon realized that they had other rooms with nice tiled floors, and asked for a change the next day. We were promised that they would change our room by the time we returned from our local sight-seeing. On returning we were given the keys to 209 – only to find that it had same type of flooring; on taking up with the front desk they were apologetic about it and blamed the girl who sits at the reception for not having checked properly before re-allotting the room. They gave us 205 next which was much better. We later realized that blocks 1 to 8 have tiled floors and 9 – 11 have this cemented mosaic floor. The only good thing about the hotel is that the staff are very courteous and try their best to please you; however housekeeping is very poor, I got a feeling that they might be understaffed. The quality of the bathroom also leaves a lot to be desired. The shower curtains are dirty, and quite a few of the curtain hooks were off the ceiling rings, so the curtain was hanging only from 3 to 4 out of the 8 hooks. Also the drain in the shower area of 205 was choked and the water overflowed from the shower area all over the bathroom; obviously housekeeping do not check these things before allotting a room. Another thing that annoys you is that there is no luggage rack in the room and you have to keep your suitcase & travel bags on the floor. At Rs. 5440/night, we expected much better quality of stay than this. Food wasn’t very great either. The pool area is down a flight of stairs which is so long that you need to rest twice in between on your way down to or up from the pool; they organize a cultural show in the pool area and a pool side dinner, so the steep decent & climb from the rooms to the pool area is really inconvenient.

Our stay at Thekkady was also blighted by the fact that the boating on Lake Periyar for wild life viewing (which is the main attraction of Thekkady) has been stopped by the govt. after the Sept boat tragedy, so there isn’t much to do except relax in the hotel. Overall we were disappointed with Thekkady Wild Corridor.

We spend two nights in the hotel.
The worst thing be aware that you have to go down and then to climb back ~ 150 steps to go to the pool or to the dinner which is served around the pool.
In addition it is quite far away from Kumily so you are quite isolated (may be it is good for romantic gateway?).
The food by itself was mediocre.
The scene from the room is very nice. The rooms are large and OK. The drainage in the bathroom was very slow and you have to wait half an hour between showers.

Stay in this hotel is very nice. Enjoyed a lot . Ambience is very good. Service is good. Ambience is excellent. I felt it is like a five star hotel. Each room is having a balcony which is a special attraction. Very near to site seeing places.

We just returned from our Honeymoon trip to God's own country.Visited Munnar,Thekkady and Alleppey( Houseboat).I must say that we thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of God's Own Country .

At thekkady, our stay at Wild Corridor was the highlight of our tour. We had opted for a honeymoon package(2 nights) in a Super Deluxe room.We were given a truly warm welcome in traditional Kerala style. Though there was a small group of foriegners who arrived at the same time, we were given personal attention by one of the guest relations manager. That was a good start.

We were escorted to the room and we fell in love with the resort, the moment we stepped in to the room.Amazing views,I must admit .This was one of the best.We could see the mist and the tree tops, mountains and a distant view of the forest.

The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was clean, spacious and had a bathtub. One point, where they could improve was the guest supplies. It was good but could have been better.

Evenings were really colourful. They had poolside barbecue and theme dinner with dance and music. We were given a candle lit dinner.Special mention for the chef who really prepared delicious food.
The only thing that we missed was the boating. But the elephant ride and may be they could add some indoor games(The resort is so beautiful, people would rather stay indoors).

Any way , all in all a wonderful experience..We will go back soon with our friends.

We stayed at 5 different locations and hotels in Kerala and this one was by far our favorite. The staff was so attentive and made us feel like we were the only guests in the place. What sets Wild Corridor apart though is the VIEWS. The rooms are like 3 story condo buildings and each one is nestled into the forest high atop the mountains. You just look out over the valleys with gorgeous unobstructed views. The room was large, clean, and had a big balcony with comfortable chairs. The bed was large and comfortable and the second bed for my child was nice. The bathroom was huge, with a separate shower stall with a door (might not seem that great, but if you are not used to traveling in India...just trust me). And a huge bathtub with a picture window looking out over paradise. There is a mini fridge in the room. The rooms are not like any 5 star luxury, but I still think this hotel is a stand out and highly recommend it. Food in the restaurant is pretty standard fare & prices, but you are looking out over paradise and enjoying fresh mountain breezes.

I understand the right now the Periyar reserve is closed and the area is really suffering. I would still encourage anyone to keep their trip to Thekkady. It is a gorgeous place and we still found plenty of activities to keep us busy for a day. Hopefully they will reopen the reserve soon.

My only suggestion is not to book any activities directly through the hotel because they mark up the ticket cost and keep some commission. We did elephant ride, Kathekalli dancing, and the spice tour and enjoyed them all. My kids didn't especially like the dancing or spice place too much, but oh well. Also, 10 minutes on an elephant is enough, so I wouldn't recommend anything longer than the 1/2 our trip. It was a great experience and we got to feed the baby elephant and everything.

  • Liked — Views, big clean room, western style bathroom, good service
  • Disliked — nothing
