“A nice place to be at !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

A nice place to stay at. Check in was pretty smooth, with staff welcoming us with garlands & tilak... It was indeed an pleasant stay at the elephant court Patio cottage. Great room with nice surroundings by the way Vegetarian food quality needs a big heads up. was disappointed with the food though....

Room Tip: Rooms at the back side of the resort are much quieter & have nice surroundings..

There’s an impressive reception area albeit rather dark. Reception staff were helpful and check-in/out was easy although very busy. We had a patio room which consisted of a good sized bedroom, a small “writing” room with a desk and chair, and a large bathroom with a very noisy air extractor. All the rooms were rather dark and dull and in need of some renovation. No hairdryer and you need to take your own toiletries. There was a large restaurant with a buffet or a la carte in the evening. When we were there most of the clients were Indians so if you’re looking for European cooking, this isn’t the place for you. We love Indian food and enjoyed the food. The waiters/waitresses were all very friendly and helpful. There’s free WiFi in the reception area although the server always seemed to be down while we were there. The hotel isn't far from the Periyar Wildlife Sacturary which is very convenient.

We stayed in the patio room for two nights in Thekkady.

Our room was very spacious and clean, the patio being the high point of the room. Each room is overlooking a nice garden which is like a mini spice plantation tour in itself. Our bell boy was actually showing us some 'All spice' and 'Guava' trees while taking us to our room. The hotel is located close to the Periyar sanctuary which is a huge plus.

The bathrooms were also clean but slightly moldy. We could see huge mold spots on the roof of our bathroom. Also the water pressure in the taps was too high. For those who ask how high water pressure can be a bad thing, I ask you to try their health wash and see for yourself.

I am not particularly picky about food and usually find something good to eat wherever we travel. Having said that, the food at Elephant court was pretty bad. The breakfast and dinner spread was too thin with very limited choices. Even the ones that was provided had no taste whatsoever. What more - on both days during breakfast, I saw cockroach running over the bread. Yikes!

We had paid high room rent as we stayed there on Christmas day, but there was nothing to warrant the higher price. There was no special celebration for Christmas, not even special food. We were pretty disappointed with that as well. If they revamp their food and clean their act together in the restaurant, it may be worth the money.

Room Tip: Definitely a patio room

We loved our stay in Patio rooms in The Elephant Court. The pool, room quality and cleanliness was good. The check-in was smooth, garlands on arriving at the hotel made us feel special. The hotel is located on a small incline/ which was supposedly a small hill. All shops and the entrance gate to the national park are located closeby. We were a bit disappointed by food but on all other parameters the hotel rates well.

Room Tip: Great hotel with nice location and service.

Lovely ambience throughout the hotel. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. A beautiful patio setting with long extended benches for relaxation. The reception at check in was excellent.
The restaurant was comfortable with excellent service however some variety required on non veg, especially chicken dishes. Kids entertainment needs to be upgraded.

A warm welcome was provided at this nicely situated hotel on the side of a hill above Thekkady. The rooms are quite simple and pleasant if a bit brown. Do go for a balcony room but be warned some rooms involve quite a few steps.
The restaurant is good if not outstanding . The service adequate .
The "Tiger " reserve is a bit of a misnomer as tigers have never been seen in the areas where visiting tourists go but much deeper into the reserve. Bird life however was fantastic and huge squirrels and langurs abound.
There is a lot of choice of hotels in Thekkady , we were happy at the elephant court but you can do better.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are nice but ask how many steps up and down to your room.

I stayed here for one night. The property is well maintained and has a good location (1 km from main market).
The problem with this property are the people...right from the housekeeping to the restaurant people. They are so rude and unwilling to listen to a guest's specific requirement. It took me 10 mins to explain that i need a 'veg grilled sandwhich' and what came afterwards was just plain sandwhich without being grilled.
I had an infant with me and i requested a separate non- spicy rice preparation for the baby ( on additional payment basis) and the F&B Manager simply refused that he will not be able to make anything other than the buffet spread. After a lot of pleading i was able to get it but the whole interaction with the manager left a very bitter taste.
I will never ever stay in this property again....this place is perfect for spoiling your holiday !!
