“Fun place for family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

We stayed here 3 nights in Dec 2013 and had loads of fun. There were a lot of activities and games for family - for all ages. The christmas gala night was well arranged though not many people turned up for that.

Kids had a great time with archery, board games, etc.

The beds were comfortable and nice and wide. They dont look so wide in traveller photos because of the the narrow bed-head but actually they are very wide, which helped as we had 2 kids in the same room as us.

The staff was gentle, friendly and nice.

The pool was not clean, and thats why i am holding back on giving 5 stars.
Also, the wifi only worked in the lobby area.

Room Tip: Take a cottage on lower levels as the restaurant is a good 20+ steps further down from there.

We stayed at Sterling resort for 2 nights during our week long Kerala tour. This resort is located at the end of the road and shares compound with Periyar Tiger Reserve, although the main entry of the reserve is a 5 minutes drive. The resort is easy to find with proper signage from the main Thekkady Junction area.

The welcome and reception at the resort is excellent. Check in was a breeze and we were in our rooms along with all the luggage in less than 5 minutes. All the rooms of the resort have wooden decor giving a feeling of log cabins. We visited Thekkady in December which is peak winter and the wooden decor made the rooms even more chilled. The resort does not provide room heaters which I felt are necessary at least during winters. We were allotted the cottage which are separate from the main 3 floor building.

The environment of the resort is excellent. There is one small swimming pool in the resort, which was not very clean. There is one restaurant which serves buffet spread as well as A-La- Carte. The variety in menu is good but is missing some local varieties. The taste of food is pretty average and is expensive (though it is the case with all the resorts). The resort has some complimentary games as well as some can be rented out. There is a travel desk which is very helpful to plan out your stay. They will do all the ticketing for you.

The rooms are very clean and provide basic amenities. They have good quality and comfortable beds. Rooms have a mini fridge and a kettle along with the sachets of tea/coffee for use. In bathroom they provide small bottle of shower gel, hand wash and body lotion. Surprisingly shampoo is missing from the commentaries. The bathroom I felt is very small and there is no bath curtain provided. After one shower the entire bathroom gets flooded and the toilet seat becomes all wet. The housekeeping staff was good and prompt. Although on the first day the hand towels and bath mat was missing from the room. We were at the resort during Christmas Eve and the resort had organized some activities and Gala Dinner for same. We didn't attend it and therefore cannot comment on that.

The resort also has a ayurvedic spa center. There are several treatments provided at the spa, I felt the rates to be ok, but combined with the additional taxes which are applicable to resorts they become steep. My wife availed for a one hour head massage and found it as very average. There are many other centers around the resort which can be used.

Check out was also a breeze, We enjoyed the stay at this Sterling property and would recommend it to any one willing to stay for couple of days.

A lovely resort in the midst of a forest area with all the amnesties found. Has a very good restaurant and a very good spread in the buffet. They serve a very tasty and good variety of food.
The swimming pool too is very good.

Room Tip: The rooms attached to the pool may be a good attraction but one may have to put up with some noisy u...

This is a beautiful hotel.
Nice staff, great food in the evening and morning.
Also, there was a nice children playground and open space which is very important for us.
The pool was nice, in our case we didn't use it since it was too cold.
What we didn't like so much was that the rooms were small and also each room had its own little boiler. So as a family of 5 we had to wait for hot water and could not make a shower one after the other.
Overall it is a good hotel and we recommend on it, even though it's not cheap.

I have never seen worst resort like this, Pool was very dirty, Even they charge Rs. 1000 more from superior room , still there is no difference between deluxe and superior room. Also there was a foul smell of chemicals in the room. Construction of room was like mumbai chawl. Common balcony for all rooms which gives you no privacy. No proper ventilation.

The rooms are fairly small with a completely wooden finish (to give it a cabin-like feel). The bathrooms, while clean, are ill-equipped (no shampoo!)
The food is well below par and service wasn't particularly impressive either.
The staff is friendly and the travel desk in particular was very helpful!
There are several other resorts in the vicinity that seemed much better - would recommend choosing one of the others.

Woods n Spice Resort in Thekkady was the 2nd Resort which we had booked during our trip to Kerala. As Sterling Time Share Members for more than 15 years, we had booked the Resorts at Munnar & Thekkady for 2 nights each. After our more than pleasant experience at Munnar, the Resort at Thekkady was good; though not as great as Munnar.
The Resort at Thekkady is near the Periyar Tiger Reserve (about 5 min by car from the Main Gate). It has a small swimming pool (which was missing in Munnar Resort) and the Rooms are arranged around the pool. The Resort has a wood finish which gives a feeling of warmth.
The Room was pleasant but small. It was clean but was short of luxurious.
The common facilities in the Resorts were good with holiday activities organized at the Resort by the staff. We witnessed a classical dance performance, which was short but sweet.
There is not much to do in Thekkady. We did not take the jeep safari which was scheduled early in the morning and hence cannot comment on the same. We however took the cruise in the Tiger Reserve. We also attended a Martial Arts Performance, which was Ok.
