“Warm, organic feel, superb hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Oozing with charm and simplicity, Meadow View Inn is one of those places you'd love to go back to for an extended stay!. Conceived and built by its owner, Satheesh, its solid antique doors and wooden structure make it reminiscent of an Indian temple, set amidst a charming garden of potted herbs and overlooking grassy vistas where deer and wild boar roam. Welcoming and accommodating, yet discreet, Satheesh and his family ensure that guests truly feel at home. Our family of 5 loved it, and would go back in an instant!

Room Tip: Loved the top room, but all the rooms have a balcony with a view over the reserve.

If you ask Satish (the homestay owner) for details of the tours in the area he will quickly have an agent round with the hard sell. Abbas will rapidly have you parted with you cash so take care and don't be pressured as plenty of companies offer tours.
The Sanctuary trekking is definitely worth doing but the elephant ride and spice tour are totally over priced (if you book through Abbas).
Abbas does not provide a receipt but just says 'trust me'.
We also booked a taxi through Abbas and he had the nerve to ask for a 1000 rupee up front payment! Has anyone paid for a taxi in advance?!!
Anyway the homestay is great but just be vigilant when booking tours through Satish's agent.

We stayed one night In this traditional and beautifully yet simply decorated homestay for a very adorable . The Room are litterally suspended over the borders of the park! Clean, functionnal and cosy, plus the possibility of organising well-guided tours on the spot.

I stayed at Meadow View for 2 nights and it was an absolutely amazing experience..I had the top floor room from where you can see the periyar reserve in all its glory..I saw herds of dears, wild pigs and innumerable birds all from the comfort of my balcony..the thoughtfully provided swings allowed for plenty of restful naps as well as for observing the animals..Sathish is a good host & is extremely knowledgable of the area..His wife & children were equally helpful..I found my stay to be extremely relaxing and I would definitely recommend staying here.

So good staying here. We had the top room, and the meadow view was the best. Walking distance to the main street shops, and a good hotel to eat dinner at - just over the road. All local attractions not far away, and the family kids are great to play cards with.

We spent two wonderful nights in this piece of paradise overlooking the wildlife sanctuary. The rooms are very roomy and comfortable with great views. It was fun trying to identify the birds and animals on a daily procession past our room. Our hosts were generous and knowledgable. The location was excellent. Overall a great place to stay.

The Meadow View Inn is a lovely little place set apart from the road which runs down to the Periyar wildlife sanctuary entrance from the main town. The main attraction must be the unique view over the fields - we saw more animal life from our sweet balcony window than the boat in the park itself. The rooms are pretty good and certainly not bland - we had a peaceful night's rest. The main accommodation is in a tasteful small sort of pagoda like tower - the views getting better as you get higher. There are also rooms at the side, and good access to the internet. The breakfast provided was just right and for other meals there are options nearby on the road amongst the shops which were recommended. The owner Satish and his family were very welcoming to what is their home as well - they have made a wonderful courtyard garden with plenty of greenery, flowers and shade. Rates are very reasonable.

There are various activities on offer nearby. Do save some time to visit the elephants in Periyar, unless you have real problems with creatures and animals that are lovingly looked after and regularly scrubbed and bathed.
