we only stayed at this homestay for 2 nights and found it friendly and good value. the owner and his family were accommodating and the food was very nice. they can organise any trips that you would like to do and also arrange or give advice with regards to transport. they are very proud of their home and also of their organic produce which they grow themselves. we were given a packed of black peppercorns which he had grown himself as a souvenir when we left - i found that a very nice touch. we had the watch tower room and it was very comfortable - there was a hot water shower which is a luxury in india. the homestay is only 50 metres from the entrance of the park. meadowview overlooks the park but the only wildlife we saw was a wild boar. i would definately recommend this homestay as it was friendly and clean and good value. whilst we were there we done the afternoon lake boat trip and saw many breeds of wildlife including elephants. we also went on the jungle safari but didnt see any wildlife that day which was disappointing.

We would highly recommend this homestay (B&B). Initially we were wary of staying in a homestay but the set up was great, allowing each guest some privacy. Each of the 4 rooms are on their own floor and each has a balcony that overlooks a portion of the park that we were in the area to visit. We were on the very top with fantastic views.

Our room was cozy and clean. 24-hour hot water was an unexpected plus. One thing to note is that the rooms do not have AC (which is not really needed anyway) so it is best to sleep with the windows open and use the mosquito nets provided.

The lobby area was nicely decorated. They even have an internet cafe. We requested home cooked food for dinner and it was amazing! We enjoyed chatting with the owners who were extremely warm and welcoming

Unfortunately we were only in Thekaddy for a night but if we comeback to the area, we will not hesitate to stay here again.

We were really impressed with the rooms at this place. Beautifully decked out with wood carvings and solid wood furniture. We had the Bison room, which is the upper most room in the building and has great views over a meadow and watering hole. Just how many animals actually use the watering hole I'm not sure, a couple of pigs were the most we saw, but the view is great all the same and at 1750 rupees a night we really felt we were getting great value for your money. Satheesh was very helpful in organising our trips into the Periyar Sanctuary, local massage and the taxi on to our next destination. He was a ranger in the park for 15 years so has some good advice on the area. Make sure you try some of his wife's food, absolutely delicious!

Room Tip: Try and get the Bison Room if you can, it's on the top floor and has the best views over the san...

We ended up staying an extra day in Kumily because of the great facilities provided at Meadow View Inn. Satheesh and his family run a tight ship and will bend over backwards to help you to book up lots of interesting things to do in the area. Our room was one of the ones that had a balcony that over looked the tiger reserve, which offered awesome views and a chance to spot wild animals such as the black monkeys, bison and boar, not to mention the abundant bird-life.

The room was clean, comfortable and had... hot water! Amazing.

Satheesh is a kind man and his family are very polite and welcoming. Do stay there.

I must confess upon arriving at meadow view I was a worried about where we were staying, the road it is on is horrid with lots of building work going on and it was being dug up.We were led down a path by santeesh(who is a dude) and to another building site, things seemed bad, however we were led to our room in the tower which had a fantastic view of peryiar meadows ,a comfortable bed, beautiful old wood mixed in with new,a clean bathroom and loads of character and my mind was changed.
We were in a building site as santeesh is currently building a yoga room but the work didn't disturb us and we had a lovely stay, santeesh is a cool guy with a big smile and a bigger heart, for my husbands birthday the whole family came to our room with a birthday cake for him and sang to him! His wife and children are lovely and the room was comfortable and clean,We saw many animals from our balcony, more than we saw in the park and could have spent hours soaking up the view.
Meadow View is a 2minute walk from the entrance to the reserve and close to a few eateries,we recommend the french bakery just down the road for lovely bread ,eggs and fantastic pizza(I know it's wrong but soooo right!),the posh hotel up the road does the usual fare but also serves a beer.
We popped into Kumily a few time you can walk or rickshaw and enjoyed the food and shopping there,so Meadow View is perfectly positioned for a few things.
I would thoroughly recommend Meadow View we didn't have high hopes but turned out to be one of our favourite places.

My wife and I planned to stay at Meadows View Inn during our Honeymoon trip to Kerala in March, 2011.
After reading about this home stay we thought it would be a good place to put up.
We had a number of conversations with Sateesh over the phone and he seemed really eager to pay attention every time we called him up.
We also transferred the advance amount to his bank account for the booking of one Bisson Tower that too on December 16, 2010. Our date of planned stay was 09th & 10th March, 2011.

Over the phone we found Sateesh a very nice person and a real possible good host.

However when we reached Kerala we called him up two days before our arrival at Thekkady. Then also he responded with great attention and requested me to give him a call when I am near to Kumily.

We were really pleased to have known a person like him.

Things were so perfect till then.

When we were 10 kilometers from Kumily I have tried calling him as per his advice. Now his cell was switched off and then I tried calling another number that was ringing and no one picked up the phone. Then I called at the land number of the home stay and his wife picked up the phone and informed that Sateesh is out of town for some work. She also mentioned that someone will be there to receive us. When we reached there, no one was there which created confusion about the place as we were new visitors. At last when we found the home stay we found that the location and view is not as good as it is being advertised and promoted in different mediums..... It is quite far away from the forest check point where as many other hotels are much nearer to the Jungle and have much better chance of sighting animals which we did from some other hotel. Anyway keeping in mind the good behavior of Sateesh we thought the disadvantages will be complimented with a good hosting.

We met with his wife and to our greatest level of surprise she mentioned that one tiger tower has been arranged for us which is much lower in cost and also in terms of views and facilities ( it is in 1st floor, road facing and no clear jungle view was available from that room. where as the bison tower is in the top floor). We had a program of night staying inside the Periyar Jungle on the same day we arrived there, so she mentioned that they will arrange for Bison tower tomorrow when we are back from the Jungle next morning.

However when we came back from the jungle next morning we found that the Bison tower room is not allotted to us and no one even bothered to entertain us for almost 20 minutes. We were standing at the reception area without being attended. Then we went into our previously allotted room.

After few minutes Sateesh's wife came in and said that the Bisson tower cannot be allotted today and we have to stay in this room. I requested her to let me talk to sateesh as his phone is switched off. She dialed some number and easily got hold of Sateesh. I talked with him, he said that someone already occupied the room and he will not be able to provide that one for me.
Now my question is when I have booked the Bisson Tower on Dec 16, 2010 which is more than 3 months before my visit that too with an advance amount and he confirmed the booking through e mail, then how is it possible in a place like Kerala famous for wonderful hosting that it was no more available inspite of prior confirmed booking? Our whole mood was spoiled then and there. We might be in a bit good state of mind if Sateesh would attend us personally or someone from the homestay pay minimum attention to us. But it seems that they are keen to have only Foreign Visitors and they will pay full attention to them only which happened with us when we are standing at the reception area and when we demanded our 3 months before pre booked room.

Sateesh clearly mentioned that some foreigner lady occupied that room that we have booked and he cannot ask her to leave as she will pay good amount of money as tips if she is happy.

We were so irritated that we took our bags and left the homestay then and there.

In addition to our experience with Meadows View Inn, they have not refunded our advanced money till date.

If you want I can send you the email and picture proofs.

Please let me know if you want know more details about this. But my suggestion will be to avoid this hotel not only for the above cited reason but also because the view and location it is having. At the same stretch there are many more much better hotels and home stays with excellent location (near to jungle) that too at the same tariff.

If you want any suggestions/tips regarding Kerala Tour please feel free to mail me @ sun4u_john@yahoo.co.in
