...there are not enough adjectives to describe how absolutely wonderful this little farm is - 5 stars does not do it justice!
From that very first glimpse of Philipkutty's Farm from across the lake, to the journey across by rowing boat, you know right away that this is going to be something special. Everything about this place is just perfect - the cottages, the views, the grounds, the food, the family - all of it, just superb.
Our cottage was large and airy with a lovely view of the backwaters at the front and a generous bathroom. The furnishings were perfectly in keeping with the surroundings and, although not air conditioned, the room was kept cool by a powerful ceiling fan. Our cottage shared a courtyard with one other and the two were connected by a 'living room' with seating and tea/coffee making facilities. There are plenty of places around the cottages and main house to sit and relax or read plus there is free wifi at the main house if you really must have some contact with the outside world!
The home cooked food is the real highlight - honestly, it is out of this world and is without doubt the best we tasted in India...we both came away half a stone heavier! All meals are served at a large round table with a lazy susan which leads to some very interesting, lively chatter with other guests at the farm and the food just keeps on coming. Beer / wine is available with your meal if desired (at a charge).
A cooking demonstration with Mummy is an absolute must while your here but we also enjoyed a farm walk with Anu around the grounds and a complimentary sunset cruise around the lake. On our last morning, before breakfast, 8 of the guests clubbed together and arranged a small motorised boat to take us around the maze of canals nearby - most of which are too small and narrow for the larger houseboats to access. This was a charming way to see some of the local village life and the wildlife around here is just fantastic! I think the total price for this 2 hour trip was 2000 INR (split between 8 people) it was organised through Anu and was worth every penny.
We only had two nights at the farm which is an absolute minimum to fully appreciate the place - i think 3 or 4 nights would have been ideal (any more than that and i don't think i would ever be able to leave the place!).
