“Heritage Property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Poovath is OK. Stayed there for 2 nights in November. It is a very, very long way from Kochi airport to Fort Kochi (1.5 hrs) where the Poovath is located. The property is a 10 room, heritage building alongside the old Dutch Cemetery. The room we had was very, very small. Had to unplug the mini fridge to plug in the kettle. Bathroom was newly renovated and very large. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is adequate but minimal. I did try the pool which was good on a hot humid afternoon. The grounds are not as glamorous as the photos imply but it was clean and tidy. Short walk to the Chinese fishing nets and even on to the Jewish town. The waterfront is quite touristy and the rubbish in the water was very, very sad. Stall sellers put the hard word on you and the tuk tuk drivers are equally persistent. Luckily we had a fantastic man take us around on the last day to places where tourists don't usually go. Very good to see the "real" Kochi.

Room Tip: Book an upstairs room overlooking the pool/beach. Downstairs room at front was too small for 2 peop...

Our extended family of eight stayed at the Poovath. And we all loved it! The house itself was beautiful, extremely well maintained and very tastefully decorated.
We had the entire first floor to ourselves. It was intimate and private while still generous and spacious.

The staff was very helpful and attentive. Great care was taken to make our stay memorable. I really can't praise them enough!

The food was excellent and the view of the beach from the terrace at breakfast made for a spectacular start to the day. Dinner on the porch rounded it off. Not to mention the afternoon snacks and drinks at the pool!

I'm so glad we chose the Poovath and hope we can go there again and stay for more than two nights next time!

The hotel is a beautiful traditional property. We had 2 rooms - a standard and a sea view. The sea view room was lovely although very expensive. The standard was a lovely room but quite small in comparison. All of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful although the hotel does seem to be overstaffed. Wifi was very sporadic. The food was nice but not quite up to the standard expected. We had a problem at checkout with unexpected charges but this was resolved with the assistance of our agent.

Room Tip: sea view is lovely but very expensive

Takes you back in time with its beautifully kept old architecture and furniture. The rooms are large, very well maintained, and extremely comfortable! The staff is helpful, courteous, and made the overall experience a worthy stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the sea-facing side are perfect!

This is centrally placed in the old town of Cochin and we could easily walk to all major points of interest. The hotel has areal old fashioned charm. The service by all the staff was excellent. The only problem , which is a feature of Cochin rather than this particular hotel was the number of mosquitoes.
Food was fine and, once we had worked out that breakfast was served upstairs, it was good.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms were quieter
