The staff is least interested. the bedsheets were not changed...after repeated reminders finally agreed...but didn't know how to??? The food is horrible..even something like an omellette could be burned..the bread was old......there are no taxi services available..def. not recommended

Room Tip: there are better hotels at willingdon island. Fort cochi is a good place to stay, if you make intern...

I had actually been to Lakshadweep and we had stayed here at this place because it was the only hotel close to the ship harbour where we had to board our cruise the next day. The front office receptionist wasn't conversant in English and it was quite a bit of a problem everytime we wanted to ask something, she would call up a senior and hand over the phone to us for all taxi bookings, etc. Amongst other staff, at least the receptionist must be able to converse in a non-malayalam language like Hindi or English. Tourists find it very difficult otherwise.

Secondly, the food - when we had breakfast, 75% of the items on the breakfast menu were not available. We were forced to choose amongst only 2-3 items that they had prepared that day. Dinner later that day was quite ok but not up to the mark. The room had a damp smell that never seemed to go away. Room service of meals takes a long, long time.

Thirdly - Cleanliness of the rooms is also an issue. Even small things like asking for extra mattress or pillow took a long time. They do not provide any towels, napkins and soaps/shampoos - much to my horror- all other hotels provide them nowadays. Aside from those glitches, this is a decent hotel, very quiet location and surroundings, very convenient especially for tourists who will be travelling by ship (due to its proximity to the harbour in willingdon island, cochin). However, one problem I faced here was that the hotel area was a little deserted so finding rickshaws was a bit of a pain. Fortunately, the hotel arranges taxis from their own agency if required.

The good thing - staff were helpful on advice about places to visit in Cochin; good travel desk assistance to arrange taxis for tourists.

The willingdon hotels are always good, this one was ok. Not the best but it was ok. When we arrived our room was given to someone else! So we had to wait for some other people to vacate their room, then the cleaners would clean it up, and then we could go inside. We had to wait in the car for all this to happen.

Other than that everything was fine I guess. The food wasn't extremely spicy so my family enjoyed that. The rooms were also very nice and had all the necessities. Over all we had a good time.

The hotel is designed well to give you a cozy, home-like experience and the service was prompt and pleasing. Over-all we enjoyed the calm and laidback feeling.

A nice quite place near the cochin port. City of cochin only 10min drive. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Near to many places of interest like Jewish synagogue and the Dutch palace. Restaurant served good meals. Overall our family enjoyed our two weeks stay hotel.

My family and I had booked a couple of rooms here for one night in May 09. We chose this hotel as it was recommended by the travel agent, and was close to the harbour, from where we were to embark on a boat journey the next day.

The only good thing about this hotel is its exterior appearance - looks can be very deceptive though; it looks like a small, cozy colonial property on the photos given on the website, but walk inside and you realise that nothing is further from the truth.

I give below a list of all the negative experiences we encountered at this hotel -

- The flush in the loo didn't work. In spite of complaining to the management, it wasn't repaired, or even an attempt made to repair it, or shift us to another room.
- The hygiene in the rooms was pathetic.
- The toilet and bathrooms were dirty.
- No toilet roll
- No napkins provided
- Only 1 towel and 1 small bar of soap provided for 2 people.
- Pillow case was dirty - it wasn't changed after the previous guests checked out. When we complained, it was grudgingly changed & the reason given was that they were running short of freshly laundered sheets/pillowcases!!
- The service was lousy - unsmiling, non-motivated staff
- No drinking water provided in the room, until asked for
- TV was working, but would behave erratically when channels changed

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. They really need to pull up their socks and improve on the hygiene, if nothing else.
