“Costa Gama = Passion for Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012 via mobile

We arrived and were met at the airport by CG's neighbour-turned-driver Baiju, who was on time and helped us get an Indian simcard (major hassle in town). And ambled our way in town.

The drive to Fort Cochin from the airport took an hour and a half. The homestay itself is cozy and very clean. The rooms are a bit pokey, but fitting a family of five into a normal sized room is always a squeeze.

What makes the place special is manager Benson and his two boys Denver and Donovan. They are natural innkeepers. Attentive, impeccably polite, and no-nonsense types that go to great lengths to help their guests.

We enjoyed CG's service so much that we felt we had to comment upon it for other travellers.

it's hard to imagine Benson and his family could be better suited for running a homestay. the welcome i received was incredibly warm, and i felt like i was part of the family by the time i left. i had the sincere privilege of being able to stay 2 months, but it wasn't long enough!

the price was more than fair, the room was large and very clean, and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking simple meals. because the homestay is on a quiet street, sleeping was always easy! any advice i needed, be it where to buy shoes or how to book a train to varkala, was readily given.

i still chat with benson and the family every now and then, and can't wait to return in the next few months!

Room Tip: the rooms over the family's home are brighter.

After read all the bad and good reviews, we decided to book this place cuz there were not many online, but there are so many places in fort kochi that you can stay, they are a lot nicer. Anyways, we were quite lucky, even though they didn't have a clue we have booked for three nights. During our visit, we have witnessed other customers argued with them about double booked the room, price difference, and their failure promises.
Room is clean and reasonable big in the second building (not where the reception desk is). Wifi is only available in the first building (where the reception desk is). Watch out the female worker, she is not very nice! If u want to rent a bike, try somewhere else first.
P.S. They DON'T have ac rooms but they advertise on the hostel booking websites. Weird and bad!
Do your laundry, cuz they charge a lot!

Room Tip: Require a room in the second building, room will be bigger and nicer. You do want to rent a bike, it...

I cant fault the cleanliness and the charm of this homestay, however we ended up being treated really shabbily by the owners. We told the owners we would be staying 2 to 3 nights, after the second night they told us we had to move to a building across the road because they had given our room to someone else....they didnt check with us and when we pointed out the sensible thing to do was to let us stay in the room we had been given and put the new people across the road there was absolutely no budging. We had to pack out belongings cancel our plans for the day and move out. There was no way we were going to stay there after that. The Grandad Ignacious was lovely and you culd tell he wasnt happy the way we were beign treated. Bad taste in our mouth after such promising beginnings. We ended up down the road in Baby's Homestay, we got a whole apartment for an extra 500 rupees and it was spotless, we tv, fridge, living room and really sweet balcony area.

Hard to fault Costa Gama. Cheap. Clean. Decent location. The best part of the experience though is without doubt the owner. Benson is slightly eccentric, has a great sense of humour, is easy to talk to, and very helpful. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Cochin, I can't recommend this place enough.

I'll keep it brief as I arrived at about 9 at night, and left at 5 in the morning to catch an early flight (total stuff up with my itinerary - boo hiss).

Benson was lovely - a funny kind of chap who in my tired state wasn't sure if he had an unusual sense of humour, was a bit kooky or a bit eccentric. Very helpful though and arranged a decent taxi driver to take me to the airport the next day.

The place felt homely, was clean, and I didn't have to badger any one to get soap and bog roll.

I was enjoying my stay, but alas, my early morning flight got in the way of everything but if I do return one day, this is where I'll be heading.

I found Costa Gama while looking for accommodation in Cochin on the web. My friend helped me with the arrangements with the owner Benson. He was helpful and courteous. As a single woman travelling alone in Kerela, I had to be careful. Benson arranged a taxi to pick me at the airport and he personally came with his wife too. It was a nice surprise.

My room was on the second level without aircon which can get a bit hot. The room came with an attached bathroom. Both were clean and well-kept. There is a simple pantry for heating food.

You can book your tours in Kerela through Benson and he will arrange them for you. He will also advise if you are not sure about the tours.

I like the fact that when you booked your tour, the tour bus come to pick you at the doorstep and sent you back there. It is a family oriented homestay and I felt safe the entire time I was there. Mr Peirera, the co-owner was very helpful and a nice man.

I stayed 3 nights.

Room Tip: Please ask for aircon in your room.
