This is such a cute quaint cobbled stoned boutique hotel, tugged away in a hidden part of Kochi. It has a beautiful courtyard setting, lined with cobbled stones and breakfast is served in this courtyard. Overlooking down all 3 sides are our hotel rooms of which are also very "English" decorated.
If you want a quiet, clean and very quaint "colonial" boutique hotel, this is the place to go !

Food is so-so but the place is fantastic ! Service is ok , if you can catch their attention. However the tour desk is not that helpful.

Oh it does not have wi fi but you can use the little "library" area to check your emails.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your feed back. Regarding the wifi, it is available for all hotel room guests however, due to the architecture of the building some areas do not receive signal. Thus, the dedicated area with a computer for guests use. During the heavy rains in the monsoon, often enough the phone and internet cables encounter technical problems.
The feedback on our service and food will help us improve this aspect of the property.
I have informed the person managing the travel desk regarding your feedback. Unfortunately since it is off season, he is often not at the desk to assists guests.
Sincerely, Management of Old Courtyard Hotel

This is a lovely historic hotel, very clean and comfortable and incredibly well-restored. The breakfast is fantastic and the staff friendly. The bathrooms are very modern and the rooms were comfortable, even with the AC off (in May!). Highly recommend.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Very clean sheets, towels, bathroom etc. beautiful old wood floors and furniture. Quiet at night. Very friendly staff. Helpful tour desk lady. Good breakfast in the cute and quiet courtyard. Close to restaurants and fishing nets. I find it very hard to believe the bad reviews, as my experience was great - highly recommend.

We stayed in a homestay which belonged to the hotel. It is very nicely decored, has good showerfacilities and is conveniently situated. The light was poor in the room. The bed is a bit small (especially when you are two European tall people) The rate was INR4500 per day including breakfast. The breakfast was ok/good. But nothing special. When you do not use the breakfast, the are not willing to give you some money back. There was a convenient kitchen, but we were not bothered to cook ourselves. There is security during the night. You must be able to find better deals. Kochi is nice, but two days at a maximum. If you expect history like in old European places, you will be disappointed. Sites and buildings are not very well maintained. Let's say the Indian style. The street with all spices is very nice to walk through.

We stayed there for 3 days at the end of Feb 2012. Friendly staff. We had room 2 which was above the archway. Old Portugese style building with dark wood interiors. Our room was lovely - well furnished with a 4-poter comfortable bed. Plenty of room. Large bathroom with good shower. Air con fine and ceiling fan.
Even wireless internet - router and a PC outside the room.
Restaurant provided good quality, variety and lovely outside setting in the courtyard if you want.
Great position - most places you are likely to want to see are a short walk away. We had a tuk tuk driver give us a tour for R50 but we gave him 150 cos he was so helpful.

The only sight drawback is that room 2 could be noisy at times. One night there was a noisy motorbike passing up and down the street. Another night the people in the room above arrived in the early hours and took an hour to settle in. The floorboards were our ceiling. So the next night we used earplugs and slept well.

Overall highly recommended and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Quieter on top floor but room 2 quality was good - possibly better than most.

We stayed here for 2 nights when travelling around Kerala in January 2012. We tried at first to get a room at the Old Courtyard Hotel, based on the reviews we had read on here. There was no availability, but the hotel offered a room at Kavu House, a homestay property that they also run that is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. It was beautiful, a four poster bed, antique style furniture, TV, fridge, ensuite shower and toilet. Everything we could want (except wi fi, which we could use at the Old Courtyard hotel) and beautifully clean and well maintained. There was also a kitchen, dining, living areas etc but we didn't use these as we were out and about in the short time we were there. Breakfast at the hotel was also included in the price of the room. We didn't realise this and left money to pay for breakfast on the first day as we were in a rush to leave. We were amazed when this was handed back to us when we popped back in to use wi fi later that day. The staff there were so honest and kind. The maid in Kavu house was also very sweet. The food was delicious (as it is all over Kerala!) including daily specials for breakfast. We cannot say enough about this place. We would definitely recommend this and would go back without hesitation.

Room Tip: We are not sure if all rooms have a four poster, but ours on the ground floor did.
