“very nice hotel, but major problem with stinging ants in room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

we were enchanted with the hotel. Our room was spacious and bathroom luxurious. Meals were exceptional and staff was well trained and helpful. HOWEVER! I was attacked by small stinging ants in our room. I asked the staff to thoroughly clean our room, change all bedding and remove an infested chair. It didn't work. The bed was still crawling with them. I was constantly pulling ants off of me and occasionally they would sting me. One stung me twice next to my right eye. At the airport and on the plane to our next destination of Udaipur, I pulled off over twelve ants from my neck and arms. I don't have a phobia about bugs, but this was RIDICULOUS!

Room Tip: check out room for bugs before you accept.

Dear Ma’am,

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused during your stay at our hotel. I looked into the matter and our housekeeping staff reports that there was a piece of chocolate in between the cushion which attracted ants into the room and on the bed. Though the room was cleaned, elimination of the ants required a thorough pest control, and hence had offered to change your room. This offer was declined by your partner as you probably preferred not to change rooms.

It is unfortunate that your stay was not as comfortable as we would have liked it to be, and we assure you a very comfortable stay on your next visit.

Thank you for your valuable feedback.

We stayed for two nights and it was good. The room was well furnished with the most comfortable beds of our whole trip...and the bathroom was the biggest and most luxurious I have seen. Very nice.
Breakfast was on the terrace, with choices from the buffet inside, and you can order a cooked breakfast too. The staff were attentive. There is still no alcohol licence. We ate out as the hotel is very well placed for restaurants and the Chinese fishing nets etc. An enjoyable stay.

Eight Bastion is a lovely stylish, smart hotel in a great location in Fort Cochin. The room we had #202 was great, really big with balcony, huge bathroom with rain shower and sunken bath and THE most comfortable bed ever! The breakfast was fabulous and so was the service right from check in to check out. The central courtyard area was lovely to sit in and it has a small pool, although it is in very close proximity to people dining, which to be honest, put me off using it, but I saw other people doing so. Overall, highly recommended.

An attractive hotel with friendly, welcoming staff. Our room, on the 2nd floor and facing the courtyard, was well proportioned and the bathroom spacious and attractive. The lovely soft bed was definitely the most comfortable of our 2 week trip. The courtyard is a pleasant place to enjoy a delicious dinner chosen from the restaurant's small but interesting menu (no alcohol available, though). The standard of service in the hotel can't be faulted. Eighth Bastion is surrounded by quiet streets with little traffic and it's an easy stroll to nearby cafes such as the delightful Kashi Art Café.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the laundry!

Located in a quieter area of Fort Cochin, just set back from the waterfront, with good balconies. Some rooms face the water but the breeze is welcome at all times in humid Cochin! The breakfast is extensive , so fresh and with some local dishes also. The best cooked poached eggs I have ever had in India. The bathrooms are outstanding, large comfortable beds, a writing desk, fridge, tea and coffee making with attentive housekeeping staff to replenish as needed. The pool has very soft water, a very relaxing spot to read and unwind.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the most breeze and room 303 has a wonderful view

Eighth Bastion is a new small boutique hotel in Cochin. Visually, it's extremely appealing with a white, solid, Dutch architectural feel complimented by old Dutch framed maps on the walls which references the Dutch heritage of Cochin. The rooms are centred around a gorgeous open courtyard with pool area which leads into the restaurant. Meals can be eaten inside or out in the courtyard. The restaurant, East Indies deserves a special mention. The food is sophisticated and delicious and great value. The rooms also reference the Dutch theme and are spacious, extremely comfortable, clean and well appointed. The bathrooms are large and very cleverly designed.

All in all, highly recommended as an accommodation option in this fascinating town. We travelled with our two young teens who also loved it.

Reasonably priced boutique in good location, very comfy bed with soft pillows (something that isn't the same across the CGH group hotels!) as well as lovely food and great service!
Yes they don't serve alcohol but pop over the road, literally, to Malabar House for a few beers or bottle of wine where they also serve lovely food.
We would stay again if back in the area!!
