I have NO idea how they got such high reviews on TripAdvisor. None. Look at my prior reviews. I'm usually pretty positive. Really, look at them so you don't think I'm a Debbie Downer. : I don't think I've ever given a terrible review. Terrible almost seems generous here. Let's start with the positive: the a/c worked very well in my room and the room was average clean. There. That's the positive. Let's continue with the not so positive. I'll try and go in order starting with the absolute most awful and working down to semi-awful. An employee used a key to come into my room at 5am. Yep. I'm a single woman and woke up at 4am to a group of tourists checking out dragging their suitcases down the corridor. That's not the hotel's fault, I understand. However, once they all left, I heard wheels going up and down the corridor over and over again. There's no peep hole so I couldn't figure out what was happening. Were the tourists coming back for some reason? Who knew....Then I hear a key in my door. I jumped out of bed and turned the light on and opened the door. It was an employee getting the dirty linen from the rooms that had checked out. He obviously started coming into my room by mistake but that's a pretty big mistake. No knock. Just coming in. Plus it was HIM who was wheeling up and down the halls with his cart getting the linen. That really annoyed me. Next most annoying thing...breakfast the first day was decent. Not super but decent. A bit of selection - hot and cold. Then, once the majority of the hotel checked out, the second day was a couple of big bowls full of cereal and a spoon to spoon it into a small bowl, bread you could toast, and a guy to make some eggs to order. Just awful. Then there's the decor of the room. I never thought I'd be the kind of person to criticize the decor but it was so abysmal I have no choice but to comment. One or two tiny pictures on the walls, a random old table with two chairs near the bathroom and the big bed with bed tables. It was all so plain, non-descript, boring. The reason you notice it is because the room was pretty large and to not be appropriately furnished made it stand out to me. Let's move to the bathroom...everytime water went down the sink it smelled the bathroom up. The toilet paper holder fell off the wall every time you used toilet paper. It is medal so it was a great sound clanging on the tile floor. The bathroom had HALF USED TOILETRIES IN IT. I took photos but don't even want to take more time to upload them to my computer. The bathroom also was "open" meaning there was a huge floor and no divider between the shower and the toilet and the sink. When you showered the water got all over. Not sure why they designed it like that but it fit the rest of the room with being bare. A random wooden towel rack (NOTE: It isn't attached to the wall so don't pull too hard or the whole thing falls into your face) was about the most interesting feature in the bathroom. The ride from the airport is painful. I couldn't believe how long it was to get to an awful hotel in an area that wasn't very interesting to see. The only thing remotely interesting to see is the Chinese fishing nets but I would recommend staying in another part of Cochin and driving to see the nets, or actually, skip Cochin all together. TV was awful. Yes, I know. You don't go to India to watch TV but I had a hard time getting on a normal sleep schedule and woke up at 4am. Too early to walk alone that early in the dark so TV is all that remains as an option if you just want to lay in bed in the dark and try to rest/fall back to sleep. I stayed in room 209 but I don't think there are any rooms too much better than others since the hotel is an open air horseshoe. I think they claim to be a "boutique" hotel. I have a feeling "boutique" is a term similar to "organic". You never know what you will get. I at least thought there would be some charm, some character, a bit unique/different/edgy or special. Any of those words would have been nice, The Killians had none of them. OH! I forgot too that the front desk staff was awful as well. Either didn't speak English, didn't care to speak to guests, didn't notice guests, not sure. Just awful - I did forget to say the security guards seemed respectful and like they kept an eye on you to the extent they could once you left the grounds. Oh. The grounds. Nothing to speak of. A few potted plants. Pool boring. Dont' think they even had lounge chairs, just upright chairs. Signs, paint, even the poor potted plants all seemed tired and ready to leave as was I.
Any room at any other hotel is my recommendation. The Killians was awful.
