“Fantastic introduction to Kerala”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Very comfortable room, Saj was very welcoming and the breakfast was great. Also gave us a recommendation for our next homestay in Kumily, which was brilliant. Told us all we needed to know to get around Kochi and see what we wanted to see, as well as the best places to eat (go to Oceanos, twice if you can!)

We stayed at Saj's in November. It is very clean and a super convenient location. There is WI-Fi, tv's in the rooms, clean bathrooms and clean rooms. We had a great stay there. The breakfast is a nice perk and the home stay is right near an ATM which was incredibly useful.
The only thing that I would warn against is booking any excursions through Saj. He booked us into a hotel in another town we had asked about and he ended up sending us to one of his friends' hotels which ended up being VERY expensive (about 90$ U.S. per night with food.) We also booked the elephant tour with him which ended up being 1.5 hour drive EACH WAY to watch elephants take a bath for a out 20 minutes. Total waste of time. If you go to Saj's to sleep I don't think you will be disappointed. It is very clean and convenient. Just be careful booking anything else through him, it's pricey and not worth it.

Room Tip: Pick room 4 - it has a balcony

Dear Madam,

Thank you much very much for choosing my tiny home for your stay and it is happy to read your feedback on tripadvisor that you have enjoyed your stay, our room, free wifi access and homely cooked breakfast.

I would like to bring to your kind notice that I had spared my precious time and telephone calls for you to arrange Kodanad elephant trainning camp and Marari beach for ZERO benefit or profit.

I had explained very clearly to you about the distance and time needed to reach Kodanad elephant training camp and the activities there, but sometimes you have ignored it or over heard as I have noticed that you were very arogant character and unfriendly with us, but your friend was very gentle and kind.

It was clearly mentioned to you that Elephants bath will be for 20/30 minutes and I did not offer whole day elephant bath or hours of elephant bath as it is run by Government and it is out of my hand as the mahouts will decide the proceedings there and please note that you have not paid any fees or ticket charges there to view this acitivity and you have only paid the cost the taxi transfer of INR 1200/- for both way ofr 116km to and fro in an air conditioned cab with a English speaking and knowledgeable driver, which is cheaper comapre to the outside rate and I have arranged this trip to hundreds of my past guests, but I do not know how come you have complained that this trip was pricey and why you want misguide other travellers??????

Since you prefered short distance beach from Alleppey and liked to avoid long distance journey to Varkala beach , (it is only 2hr 30 minutes from Alleppey to Varkala) I have suggested Marari beach to you as it was close from Alleppey and which is not a Town, it is small village with clean, calm and quite swimming beach without many tourists and this village is with very few hotels and homestays. The homestay I have suggested to you have charged you INR 3000/night-including all the taxes and breakfast, (It is a utter lie that you have paid USD 90/ngiht). If the room rate INR 3000/night was expensive to you, then you should have not taken a room there upon your arrival or would have checked out on the next day as you have not paid any room advance there.

After your return trip to Kochi, I found time to come to meet you to hear your feedback at next door homestay as there was no room available at Sajhome, but you have not mentioned any complaints to me and both of you were pretty happy with my arrangements, then how you could wrote such a review?

Upon you arrival at Sajhome you were sick with bad stomach as usaual we have done our best efforts and service to you to get a speedy recovery by providing homely food and speacial care, but you forgot these all as you were very rude and rough character.

We do provide a warm welcome, friendly environment, clean room, genuine, professional tourist information and our precious time in preparing local foods for guests to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay at our home.

if there is a complaint from a guest who unsatisfied with our trips or acitivities, we do always refund the moneys also.

Please do not harm people who really care you, treat like you God and love you. This is real cruelty.

The room was all I needed for a wonderful holiday in Fort Kochi. Saj and his family were fantastic and helpful. The location was ideal to walk to all the attractions in the area. The breakfast was included each day and was delicious and kept us going for the entire morning. The access to internet was excellent with a strong signal which was maintained throughout the day other then on power outages. Power outage was short and easy to work around.

As long as you know what a homestay is you will love Sajhome... The rooms are spacious (although the bathrooms are small - but clean), the food is finger licking good - Saj's wife is a brilliant cook.

Saj is a very affectionate host and will tell you the best places to eat (Oceano's was rocking!). Also, Sajhome is a great starting point for a walking tour of Fort Kochi. Saj provided us with a map and the walking route we should take... Fort Kochi is such a lovely, chilled out place!

If you need anything including a houseboat tour Saj will arrange it for you, if you want a rabbit pulled out of a hat, he might even do that for you! :) All in all Fort Kochi and Kerala for us was a lovely travel and gastronomic experience and Sajhome was the perfect place for us to stay in Fort Kochi. It's #2 on tripadvisor for a reason and you should experience it in any season... :)

As we were about to depart after a 6-day stay at Sajhome, Saj told me that the property was booked till February. From what i have seen, i readily believe this. The level of service they offer is excellent, and they make sure that even the smallest requests made by guests are taken care of.

They offer a delicious complementary breakfast (continental or South Indian, Mrs. Saj is a charming lady and a wonderful cook) and help you with your travel itinerary around the beautiful city of Kochi, providing valuable information to make your trip even more memorable.

The rooms are modest but kept neat and clean. Clearly marked warnings on room doors remind guests to keep them closed as mosquitoes are a constant nuisance in Kochi. The air conditioning is effective too. Saj and his team are very accommodating and take pains to ensure that guests are satisfied with their rooms.

Thanks to Sia and his brother. I will certainly be going back to Sajhome, it was an excellent experience! Cheers and good work guys 8-)

Sajhome was fantastic, it was our first stop on a little trip around Kerala and i wish we could have stayed there longer. Saj was so helpful, arranging airport pick up, sorting us out the houseboat for our next night. He even gave us tips on where to eat and drink, plus what to see around Fort Cochin. The rooms are clean and have everything you could need. The breakfast was absolutely lovely as well. If i'm lucky enough to go back to Kerala i'll definitely be staying at Sajhome again. Thanks again Saj.

Along with being tremendously affordable the staff here was very accommodating to us! The food/breakfast was delicious, the rooms were clean, well cared for, roomy, and mine came with a very large balcony @ no additional charge! Along with great service related to our hotel room the staff also provided us a plethora of information regarding touring the town, taking classes from private vendors (personal contacts of the family), AND carrying my extremely large backpack to the bus stop the owner's son offered me a ride on the back of his scooter after seeing me walking down the street (too kind!). You get so much more than you pay for at Sajhome, you get a truly Indian experience!

Room Tip: My GREAT room with a balcony was at the top of the stairs on the second floor ;-)
