One word encapsulates our experience at Thotadhahalli Home Stay - Hospitality.
We were a bit apprehensive about spending what comes across as higher than regular tariff when booking but it turned out to be worth every paisa that we had spent for a day's stay (they were booked for the next day).
The moment you approach the sprawling bungalow, driving through coffee plantation trails, akin to those in Madikeri, you realise that you have reached home. There is tranquility around the place and you sense the warmth that comes from home stays that the owners stay at.
Spacious rooms with interesting furniture greet you once you have soaked in the beauty of tiny curios and antique irons, locks and what not! The garden doubles up as the sitting area with a cozy dining enclosure adjacent to it. You can relax and take in the hues of the night sky munching on some really amazing snacks around a bonfire. Carry your booze as they do not serve liquor out here.
The snacks are not followed by dinner, as you might expect. There's a night safari, so to say,on the cards. So, up you go in the back of a pick-up truck and the host for the evening, Mr. Prakash, would take you on a ride deep inside the coffee plantations owned by the family. Just to make things interesting, he would turn the headlights of the vehicle off and swirl the truck around as if he were driving on a 6-lane highway, making donuts on the road!
He would not blink an eye if you order something that is not on the menu, Pandhi Curry, for instance. Served, piping hot, especially for you, within no time. We have stayed at home stays but the difference that Thotadhahalli offers is in the warm hospitality that only the owners can provide.
Stay here for a couple of days, explore the coffee plantation on foot, look at some bright red ants on the trail, take in the fresh air and just relax.
