“Sophisticated Comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2008

A very imposing hotel in immaculate grounds, modern, efficient and very comfortable. The food was very good and the staff very obliging finding me the last bottle of Grover Vineyards Shiraz Rose, the best Indian wine that I have found, it's produced by a French winemaker not far from Bangalore. we only had one night in the hotel but it is certainly an excellent hotel.

Grand Ashok is a name difficult to live up to, in Bangalore it certainly does its best. Staff very friendly and efficient, 3.00am wake up call no problem, taxi ready and waiting, early morning check out a breeze. Rooms fairly spartan, but a good size and very clean.

You can spend many hundreds of ponds a night in Bangalore and get no more than you get here. The real plus points are the great gardens (with the Ghandi Memorial where he once prayed), good food, cheap Kingfisher beer, fabulous gym and pool set up. Can't really fault it.

One tip, rooms with a balcony come with pigeons and trains, you may want the front side.

Enjoy

This hotel was fantastic. Staff great and very efficient. Stunning gym and spa. Breakfast great. Business center staff efficient. Concierge knowlegeable and helpful. Rooms decent.

Only problem encountered were bar staff in sutra lounge. They tend to not give back change and when questioned you are required to negotiate!!

  • Liked — excellent staff and clean well run hotel
  • Disliked — bar staff stealing change

Stayed at the Ashok on business for 3 nights, with a one-night break in between. My rooms looked nice but were musty smelling, which I don't find acceptable at a hotel in this price range. The gym is nice, breakfast was good, dinner was average at best. Staff was pleasant. On balance, I'll look elsewhere next time.

This is a former Government owned hotel and no matter how much they claim to have renovated it, there's still a down at heel institutional feel to it from the barren grounds to the dull reception. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere. While the staff are very pleasant and helpful they can't make up for its many faults. The breakfast buffet was adequate at best but we did have a memorable meal at the Chinese restaurant on the top floor. The elevators have seen better days and, although the rooms have been fairly nicely decorated they have a few problems beyond the low quality furnishings. When the air conditioning turns on the smell of damp/mould was very unpleasant. Of course, the scurrying we could hear in the ceiling of all three of our rooms may also have been a clue. After a change of rooms made no difference, we checked out, happily losing the cost of our two remaing nights, and headed for The Oberoi where, admittedly, we paid almost twice the price but got 10 times the qualty. Bangalore hotel prices are skyrocketing but if you get what seems like a great deal in comparison at the Ashok, remember, there's a very good reason for it.

I went to this hotel only looking at the other listings and decided to try it out. It surely was a good hotel. Eventhough there was a little rennovation happening during the day (luckily for me I was in my office), they made it up by throwing a nice cocktail for us their in-house guests.

Quite friendly & professional staff however could do with a little more finesse. The newly done up restaurants are quite nice & comfortable. Oh! and their new bar (forgot the name) is really awesome with a good sound system & ambience.

Had to wait for some time at the airport before the airport rep could locate me and escort me to my car. Infact the whole airport was in a mess with a lot of construction happening all around. the only negative aspect during my visit to Bangalore was the traffic and roads and it took me about 45 minutes to get to the hotel

Well overall, I would with no hesitation recommend this hotel to other fellow travellers checking out this site. Ciao...happy travelling ;-)

  • Liked — The greenery & friendly staff
  • Disliked — I don't think there was any or probably the distance from the airport
  • Tips/Secrets — Try the massage at their Spa and a drink at their bar

Quite a nice hotel. Had been here about 2 years back with a very bad impression on the whole. Due to lack of rooms anywhere else had no choice but to book myself at this hotel. If I commented that I was not impressed, I would be lying. This hotel has been completely revamped and as they claim it is definately comparable to any other Intercontinental property. They have 5 other Intercon property in India as part of their chain hotels.

The rooms were quite spacious with wooden flooring and quite business like and comfortable. The staff are pretty friendly and helpful too. the food served in this hotel definately adds a feather in their cap. Overall good value for money (atleast with the prices in Bangalore) and I would recommend this hotel and it surely is worth trying.
