“The Best Hospitality in India”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at Blooming Dales for 4 nights in February. The Guesthouse was homely and extremely clean. The rooms were spacious, with garden views. And as it was winter and very cold the room was equipped with a heater and lots and lots of blankets. We had hot water 24 hrs a day, but had to use a bucket (which was no problem). The food was delicious and the staff were all extremely nice. The best part of our stay at Blooming Dale was by far our host Mr Firdous, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for him! Upon arrival we were greeted with tea and Kashmiri cookies, the following day Mr Firdous took us on a tour of Srinigar and every day he made an effort to catch up with us and see if we needed any assistance. He assisted us with all our travel plans and even went to the effort of driving us to local transport stations. On leaving Blooming Dales we truly felt that we had made a new friend and were guests in his home rather than just at a hotel.

Room Tip: Upstairs has garden views, however downstairs are warmer in winter and also open up to a courtyard.

We planned our trip in Srinagar last month. Kashmirmagic.com planned our complete honeymoon package which included the to and fro travel, stay at honeymoon suites and sightseeing bookings. Their site ws nt appealing but rates nd services were impeccable
We took the train to Jammu from Delhi. The train ride was followed by a cab ride to Srinagar, which was pre booked. The Blooming Dale Hotel Cottages located in Buchwara in Srinagar was booked as one of our abodes for our trip of 7 days and 8 nights in this city renowned for its houseboats, gardens and lakes. We stayed here 3 nights.

At the onset as we arrived in our hotel, we were a bit apprehensive of the hotel’s location and we were not feeling comfortable with it as the location seemed a bit cornered. The road leading up to the entrance was muddy and it was difficult for the cab too. But once we entered the hotel and interacted with the manager, our fears dispersed and we had an enjoyable time on the whole.

Our room was well furnished and spacious. We realized on the morrow that the surroundings of the Blooming Dale consisted mainly of other resorts and guest houses and so most of our neighbours in the adjoining buildings were also tourists. We struck up a chord with another honeymooning couple and on the consequent days we travelled together.

Our sightseeing trip was arranged by our trave; agent. The Nishant, Nehru and Shalimar Gardens, the Hazratbal Mosque, the Pari Mahal and the Ziarati Hazrati Youza Asouph were the main attractions among others. The driver also arranged for a special trip to Parihaspora in Dewar on the third day on our way to Gulmarg, something which we highly recommend the hotel on the whole.

This homestay is walking distance from the Dal lake and that's probably the most compelling reason to stay there. The market is close by and walking distance from the place. But the rooms are not well maintained. Atleast the bed sheets and blankets need to changed. They seem to be really old and smell and are not changed on a daily basis so in terms of cleanliness its disappointing. Not really recommended. I am sure there must be better options in a city like Srinagar.

Located at 5 mins walk from main road accross Dal Lake, is a beautifull and fresh Hotel Blooming Dale. At first glance the locality may seem a bit inferior, but the Hotel is no where compared to it. This was our second honeymoon and got room no. 201 (If I remember correctly), located on 2nd floor at extreme end overlooking the garden from top. Our room & toilet was visually pretty clean and stain-free. There were two people who helped us with our luggage, and also served us our welcome drink - Saffron Tea. Well, honestly, the tea didnt taste as good as we had in other restaurant. We loved the Saffron tea of Hotel Heemal, located few blocks on the main road overlooking Dal Lake; Though the food was really good, and I might dare say - comparable to food at "Stream" Restaurant.

Pros:
1) Clean, Stain free room with ample lighting and TV with good option of channels
2) Courteous unobtrusive Staff (Non "Bakshish" hungry, though I tipped them Rs100 each at checkout time, they deserved it!)
3) Heated electric Blanket!!! Yes they got this!
4) Multi Plug AC Power Supply Adapter - for devices brought from world over!!!
5) Good freshly cooked local food - We had it served at our room.
6) Complimentary breakfast is really good
7) Credit Card Payments & they work!!!

Cons:
1) Location, but I guess this is manageable

I definitely recommend this Hotel!!! If you are looking for a budget hotel, look no more, dont bother about the location, as we had been to Dal Lake facing executive deluxe rooms but this one still beats it in quality and price both - Hospitality, Prompt Service & Cleanliness matters!

Tip01: Book their vehicle for pick-up & drop-off service of Airport as they charge Rs500/- compared to Rs.550/- charged by Prepaid Cabs.

Hats off to Mr Firdous ji for his amazing hospitality. Stayed their for 4 nights in december. Good clean rooms, courteous staff, nice food, timely guidance from Mr Firdous and no frills like everyone else mentioned. Which places to visit ?, How to bargain ?, Where is fixed price good shop to get Kashmiri stuff ?, Which route to go on a new place like Gulmarg where every guide is looking for a buck ? All questions got answered in a timely fashion.
If Bloomingdale wont be available for my next visit to Kashmir, I might think of changing my dates rather then exploring any other hotel.

I stayed in Blooming Dale in Aug 2012 for 2 nights. Like most other reviewers, I too enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. Firdous. The place owes its high rating to the personal touch given by Mr. Firdous in making the guests comfortable and going extra mile in making the stay memorable.

Rooms are basic but clean. There isn't any great view as the hotel is inside the by-lanes. There is an attached lawn which the guests can use, but we didn't use it. So, there is no premium on property as such.

Food is cooked by Mr. Firdous' helpers (who are themselves quite mild mannered and are unobtrusive). The menu has good selection, excellent taste and good quantity servings.

The place is located 5 min walk from Dal Gate. The promenade next to lake is a good place to hangout in evening and night. Apart from shikara rides, the promenade is lined with many restaurants and some general utility shops. So, if one chooses not to eat at the hotel for some reason, there are plenty of options outside.

Personal touch by Mr. Firdous: I will just list the occasions rather than drive home the point which has already been done by other reviewers -
1. Help in planning sight-seeing trip (note - since you are close to promenade and the taxi / auto-rickshaw stand is very close, will recommend that you go out and do some rate check on transport options available; Mr. Firdous is so nice that I didn't feel like bargaining with him :) )
2. Self-drove us to Shankracharya temple. He is quite knowledgeable about the surroundings. Took us off the known path known to locals for a short trek around the hill inside the woods. We had the pleasure of him singing few ghazals for us as well. :)
3. I wanted to see the famous Lal Chowk because of its political significance. Mr. Firdous drove us to the spot and showed us around.
4. Invited us to his souvenir shop and I was able to purchase some items which were well within my budget for gifting to friends
5. We had arrived in Srinagar after a very long, tiring journey by road from Leh. We got down at Dal Gate without any hotel bookings. I had listed some hotels from Tripadvisor and called up Mr. Firdous first. I didn't feel like making any more calls and he came to pick us up since we had no clue about the roads at that point. :)

Room Tip: 1 or 2 rooms on first floor may afford a comparatively better view because they face a big lawn of a...

Stayed @Bloomingdale for 4 Nights in December 2012 (8,9,10 & 15th), had best breakfast and Dinner here, the rooms are clean, there are electric heating blankets and heaters in the room for comfort. There's a garden to enjoy morning Tea (we did that once as it was super cold in Dec).
Mr. Firdous Ahmed (Owner) personally took us for sight seeing in Srinagar @Jamia Masjid and Shankaracharya temple. Also Helped us in Shopping for woolens, Shawls & hotels . He is a vessel of knowledge and information . It was a pleasure to have a host like Mr. Firdous and a delight to have food cooked by Mehir. A home away from Home I must say.
