“Good Location & Food. My Elevator Nightmare Came True”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

The hotel is one of the oldest in Srinagar, undergoing renovation at the time of my visit, as reported by the reception desk. The hotel is very centrally located. I stayed in the old un-renovated section, which is all wooden structure and the room flooring, furniture and walls are also of local walnut/pine wood.

Food quality was good and the old retainers of the hotel were quite polite. The hotel has a multi cuisine cafeteria on the high street approachable from outside the hotel as at the time of my visit the internal path was dug up. The hotel also has a swimming pool in the front courtyard and a bar adjoins it.

While I was in the elevator going from my room on second floor to the reception for check out, power failed and the elevator stopped midway. There was no emergency light in the elevator, no call button or alarm. The hotel staff did not bother to check even when back up power came on and they did not restart the elevator. It seems that back up power does not support the elevator power load. The result was that after a little bit of wait for things to start up, I had to resort to banging on the elevator doors till one of the staff heard the banging and raised an alarm. I was finally rescued after a good 20 minutes in the dark elevator.

Room Tip: Insist to stay in the renovated section. Ask for front lawn facing rooms. Do not use the elevator wi...

We stayed here for three nights starting March 29. The hotel is conveniently located, within a few minutes by car to the Dal lake and other attractions. The rooms are big and comfortable with good heating and the bathroom is fantastic. The down side is that the walls are thin as you can hear other guests talking at times and the carpets in the room need to be replaced as they are quite worn out. Also the wi-fi connectivity is slow. We stayed in Room 412. Room service was prompt and staff at the reception were pleasant. Breakfast buffet was not bad though not a lavish spread. All in all a good hotel where I'd consider staying again.

This hotel is located in the middle of Srinagar with easy access to all main locations within the city. However, it is clearly over priced given the quality of hotel, rooms and staff. The rooms are wooden(like many other hotels in srinagar) but very poorly maintained. Doors dont shut properly, bathroom faucets dont function and the layout of the rooms is pretty average. Further, the service is average; Food in the cafetaria is not great(the breakfast spread is quite good though). We were to stay here for 4 nights but we packed off after the first night itself.
It is recommended to stay out of Srinagar - Attractions in the city are more "touristy" - the real beauty is out of srinagar(Pahalgam, Gulmarg). Hotels in rest of kashmir are not cheap either, but its better to spend the money in a place like pahalgam rather than waste it on a hotel like broadway.
Also, unless you cannot control yourself, DO NOT buy anything in kashmir - shawls, suits, kesar, dry fruits etc. 100% of the shops are super over priced - and 60% of the shops sell duplicate stuff. Dont buy anything AT ALL at Dal Lake especially - its a clear tourist trap. So are "emporiums" on the way from Gulmarg/Pahalgam to srinagar. Unless you know somebody in kashmir, its better to buy kashmiri stuff from a delhi market.

Its a prime property in Srinagar with a great cafe alongside, nice location
the rooms are under maintenance right now,so that's an eyesore. the swimming pool is nice . staff is okayish, room service is excellent helped us even at 2.30 am for our heater.
but the restaurant staff were not good, very confused, even though the hotel was not heavily booked. the food also was not upto the mark, very small portions.

Room Tip: rooms facing bar and swimming pool

It was a very beautiful laid back hotel with great architecture. Although when we arrived it was curfew, the Hotel staff has always been extremely friendly. They have been very accommodating to our request and would do anything to ensure we feel safe and warm in their hotel. During our 4night stay, the waiter remembers our favorite drink / food and knows what to serve us. Bravo for customer service!

The rooms are old however they are well maintained and the toilets are refurbish, hence you do feel good. The restaurant beneath served excellent food from breakfast to dinner, we have never complaint.

The hotel is strategically located, walking distance to a shopping street nearby. Even so during curfew, it was not that bad to walk to Dal lake.

Room Tip: Get a room with the pool view...

We stayed here for four nights and liked the place. Its very close to Dal lake and all the major attractions. Their food specially Chilli Paneer and Hot Manchow soup was very good. The heating was good in the hotel rooms but I found lobby to be little cold. They said it was centrally heated but lobby was always cold.

Overall, good customer service and helpful people. Little high on price side though.
