Booked 2 nights on Cleartrip.com and on the site was offered the Palace Mews Room. No pictures loaded on the Cleartrip site or on the official site which displays the room which has been booked. A negative point for both Cleartrip and the hotel. Well, we then spoke to the hotel and were told that this was a basement room, whereas there is no image or description which actually states that. After a discussion, the hotel thankfully agreed to an upgrade to the room with a balcony.
The Deluxe room was spacious, neat and clean. Beautiful views from the balcony of the garden and the river (which has now dried up though). Issues begin with the Safe not working, they give a key for the safe even though it can work on batteries. (not sure how "safe" the safe would be when you know someone else would have a key to it as well) After asking they finally placed another safe in the room (in between the operator thought we asked for Shoe Shine instead of Batteries for the safe!! :D ).
No hot water in the room, after making atleast 8-10 calls and going down to meet the "always in a meeting manager" they finally turned on the Boiler for the hotel to heat the water. If you are travelling here, you should be ready to get your patience tested to the max. Do not call and wait for someone to carry out the job, get after them till its complete.
Indian Food was brilliant, I would recommend Rajma, Nadru Yakhni, Chicken Lababdar. Please do not venture into other cuisines since they might unfold a mysterious dish which even they might not be able to describe to you. For eg. a green thai curry matches upto the color of "sarson ka saag".
The way the staff responds can be very annoying and frustrating and I have never slept in another hotel with this uneasiness of "what can they do wrong tomorrow". Small instances can really destroy your image of the hotel as a whole. The management should be blamed for this since if you call with a complaint your perpetually told that either the manager is in a meeting - be it at 1030pm or 3pm, and it almost showcases that they really dont give a damn. Having said this, i would like to mention that after raising a voice they finally did try to do some service recovery and hosted a meal for us which is primarily the reason for rating it Average against a Poor.
Having travelled a lot, I do feel that they could have salvaged this situation earlier in the stay if the managers addressed the problem on time.
You must check out the Amar Singh museum next door, the old gentleman gives you an excellent description of what this hotel is known for - Dr Karan Singh's family palace. I do hope this hotel gets it service standards rectified since they could easily be the best in the city minus these blunders.
