“Beautiful Property, but Service is extremely poor!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

Booked 2 nights on Cleartrip.com and on the site was offered the Palace Mews Room. No pictures loaded on the Cleartrip site or on the official site which displays the room which has been booked. A negative point for both Cleartrip and the hotel. Well, we then spoke to the hotel and were told that this was a basement room, whereas there is no image or description which actually states that. After a discussion, the hotel thankfully agreed to an upgrade to the room with a balcony.

The Deluxe room was spacious, neat and clean. Beautiful views from the balcony of the garden and the river (which has now dried up though). Issues begin with the Safe not working, they give a key for the safe even though it can work on batteries. (not sure how "safe" the safe would be when you know someone else would have a key to it as well) After asking they finally placed another safe in the room (in between the operator thought we asked for Shoe Shine instead of Batteries for the safe!! :D ).

No hot water in the room, after making atleast 8-10 calls and going down to meet the "always in a meeting manager" they finally turned on the Boiler for the hotel to heat the water. If you are travelling here, you should be ready to get your patience tested to the max. Do not call and wait for someone to carry out the job, get after them till its complete.

Indian Food was brilliant, I would recommend Rajma, Nadru Yakhni, Chicken Lababdar. Please do not venture into other cuisines since they might unfold a mysterious dish which even they might not be able to describe to you. For eg. a green thai curry matches upto the color of "sarson ka saag".

The way the staff responds can be very annoying and frustrating and I have never slept in another hotel with this uneasiness of "what can they do wrong tomorrow". Small instances can really destroy your image of the hotel as a whole. The management should be blamed for this since if you call with a complaint your perpetually told that either the manager is in a meeting - be it at 1030pm or 3pm, and it almost showcases that they really dont give a damn. Having said this, i would like to mention that after raising a voice they finally did try to do some service recovery and hosted a meal for us which is primarily the reason for rating it Average against a Poor.

Having travelled a lot, I do feel that they could have salvaged this situation earlier in the stay if the managers addressed the problem on time.

You must check out the Amar Singh museum next door, the old gentleman gives you an excellent description of what this hotel is known for - Dr Karan Singh's family palace. I do hope this hotel gets it service standards rectified since they could easily be the best in the city minus these blunders.

Room Tip: Deluxe Room with the balcony or Room No. 215.

Beautiful location in Jammu away from the city hustle bustle. Ok for overnight stay. Ambience of the restaurant and the open air restaurant is good. Quality of food taste wise far below expectation. Worst beriyani (dum-phukat style as mentioned in the menu) ever tasted by me. Recommend to take the food outside the hotel which is about 3km away.

Room Tip: River front or the garden veiw

The hotel gives you a feel of royalty right from entrance to the room. it has magnificent views of jammu and hill views.

The hotel belongs to the local MP and Ex Royal family of Jammu.

For a day you feel like yesteryear King, but it lacks all luxury amenities that we see in present day 5 star deluxe hotels.

But with in the options available in Jammu, this is THE BEST property in Jammu.

Located at the most scenic place in Jammu, you can't help appreciating the ambiance offered. Well kept sprawling lawns overlooking river Tawi and distant view of trikua hills present one of the most beautiful view. Summer evenings and wintery noons are especially enjoyable. The variety of both veg and non-veg meals is good and delicious. The service is prompt. Over all experience is quite good.

We had a day free in Jammu and choose to stay in a property which was quite and away from the bustle of the city. The Hari Niwas Place looked to be the best available option so we booked in right away only to come back with a not so good memory of the hotel. the location is simply beaurtiful offering undisturbed views of the Tavi river and the mountainscape beyond next to the historic palace where the royals of J&K lived.
The Rooms are well sized but are not very clean, the toilets are unclean and lack basic facilities like hot water, faucets are broken and we were subjected to change rooms twice after waiting for hot wate infront of a flowing tap ( wasteing precious resource ) for over 30 minutes. the staff is not well trained and lack an attitude to resolve issues.
We feel that the management should take note of this before guests stop visiting this property, their restaurant however serves excellent kashmiri and other north indian fare, lovey gardens and great views.
Go to Jammu, stay anywhere but do vist the place for the food.

We were in Jammu for a wedding and took some time out with friends to be at this hotel for dinner. The restaurant serves good food and has a breathtaking view of Jammu, Tawi river and the Valley. The food is awesome. The only let down for us was that the service was a little slow , it could be due to weekend. Otherwise a great place to be. Try to get a seat at the Lawn :)

Room Tip: Go there for great food !!
