I, along with my sister and her daughter's family left New Delhi by train and reached Jammu. From Jammu we took a taxi to reach Katra. From Katra we started walking. Contrary to my expectation, it was quite enjoyable to walk and with a good weather that was mildly cold, the journey was very pleasant. We halted at few places for water, juice or tea. Half way through the destination, we reached Adhkawari where in a cave, Devi meditated for 9 months.
Further we continued our walk to finally reach the cave and experience a wonderful darshan of Ma Vaishno Devi. Again we started further up as we were told that the pilgrimage is complete only after darshan of Bhairavnath temple located above at a distance of about 3 kms. We finished the journey and then started walking back towards the foot of the mountain. As we reached Vaishno Devi cave, we decided to hire horse for our jouney back to the foot of the mountain and reached. My advice to fellow travellers is to make sure that you select a good horse that is healthy. The one who was walking the horse hit it with a whip from time though I strongly objected to it. Finally it tripped and I had a fall though luckily was not hurt much.
Anyway all that remains in mind is the excellent journey and the darshan we all had. It is worth visiting at least once in your life time.
