“Better than Courtyard in the US”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Marriott's Courtyard brand of hotels is a more basic, lower cost facility--at least in the US. I've stayed in many Courtyard hotels, but this one in Gurgaon is the nicest one by far. The rooms are well appointed, modern, and comfortable. The hotel has a nice lobby and a small but acceptable work out facility. The breakfast is excellent (not sure what some reviews mean when they say it is limited). There are Indian and Western breakfast items and just about anything else you may want. The service when we were there was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel if you need to stay in Gurgaon or if you need to be relatively close to the airport.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter.

Overview: Good location if you want metro access and above-average facilities for a Courtyard. However, the reason to stay here is the warm service, as staff in every department go above-and-beyond expectations to ensure a successful stay. If this is your first time to India, a good hotel staff is worth more than you might think.

--

Location - The hotel is a 10 minute walk or Rs. 20 auto ride from the Huda City Centre metro station, which is in turn about a 45-60 minute train ride from Delhi, depending on your destination. Many hotels in Gurgaon are not within walking distance of a metro, so consider this if it's important. There are other locations closer to the DLF technology hubs, but this property is just a short drive from NH-8. There are some nearby restaurants a quick drive away, especially in the Leisure Valley shopping center.

Rooms - The rooms are comfortable and above-average size for a standard hotel room. I had one King bed with a large glass-top desk with a wooden extension that made for a very comfortable and spacious work environment. Closet and storage are adequate. The couch is of moderate comfort.

Food - The downstairs restaurant, MoMa, is open late and has a buffet. In addition, there is a menu. You can ask the staff what's good that night and they'll cook something for you. There are a variety of specials and there are some live cooking stations at times. Sunday brunch is especially good. They do have some Western food, especially at breakfast, but the Indian selection is much better. Ask the staff to guide you if you're hesitant about trying the cuisine. The upstairs restaurant has well-above-average Thai and Chinese food. Marriott frequent travelers can use the concierge lounge with good appetizers and drinks.

Fitness center / pool - Above average for a hotel fitness center; it has a few resistance machines, dumbells up to about 35lb, a Smith machine, and a flat bench. There are treadmills and bikes. Outdoor pool is nice, but I was there in monsoon this year and scorching heat last year, so I didn't use it.

Service - The service is outstanding and is the primary reason to stay here. If you are on an extended trip or are an international traveler (I was both), the service makes a huge difference. The restaurant and hotel staff are generally graduates of hospitality schools in India and their dedication to the industry shows. It is not an exaggeration to say a dozen people knew me and greeted me by name on a daily basis, mostly in the restaurant and front desk staff. One remembered me from a visit 13 months earlier. They were diligent in ensuring I had a comfortable stay and seemed to have a personal stake in my happiness and the success of my trip. They displayed the kind of dedication to their jobs and cheerfulness that is so endearing about India. Good service at a hotel is a nice touch for a quick stay, but can make or break an extended stay, especially in a new country. The hotel staff became my travel advisors, recommending attractions, neighborhoods, transportation options and restaurants in Delhi; they also helped me navigate the hotel buffet (a lot was unfamiliar to my American palate) and steered me toward food I would like. They offered to pre-order any food I especially liked so I could have it again. In one instance, I was off-site and needed a copy of my passport and visa; one front desk staffer was able to fax it and save me from an embarrassing situation. When I checked out early in the morning on my birthday in 2012, the staff, judging it was too early for cake, gave me a basket of muffins and croissants from the bakery with a happy birthday card.

Now that I am home, when I think of India, I often think of the staff at the Courtyard and the excellent service I received there. It is hard to travel to such a different culture for such a long time, but there were literally dozens of friendly faces and warm conversations to make the stay easier and enjoyable.

Room Tip: The sun comes up closer to the side facing the entrance.

Great hotel, nice food. But the location is not great. High end hotel suitable for same class people. Have limited choice to have food in outside. But no way you can complaint about their service, food and room quality.

Nice hotel in Gurgaon, no frills, serves its purpose. 4 years old. Friendly and attentive staff. Rooms are modern and tastefully furnished.

Arriving past midnight, it is not too far away from the airport. Good breakfast with a nice assortment of items.

I had a chance to spend one night at this property during April. The hotel is located nicely within few yards away from the City Center Metro station Gurgaon. The property is newly developed within last 4-5 years, so the area covered by the hotel promise is limited. The ground floor lounge is nice with comfortable seating for guests. The breakfast is nice and sufficient. However, we did have some problems with mosquitoes in one of the corners of the breakfast lounge. The 15th floor executive lounge provides a rear view of the city spreading till southern end of the Gurgaon city. The lounge closes at 12:00 midnight, which was a bit inconvenient for us as my team was all set to work together in the lounge for an important work. Nevertheless, room was comfortable, though past midnight, noise from passing truck on the road in front of the hotel building cold pass through the room's glass walls. Room service was nice. I needed a plug socket to convert my laptop plug from US to India standard, which hotel desk provided me immediately on request.

Overall the experience was not that bad and a good option for a short stay.

Room Tip: Take the rooms above 10th floor to avoid noise on the road.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for choosing Courtyard by Marriott Gurgaon for your stay while in our city.

We are truly delighted to read your review with positive feedback for hotel’s location, staff, services, décor, buffet and rooms. It is our constant endeavor to ensure that every guest leaves as an ambassador of our product and services. Apologies for the inconvenience caused at the lounge. It is primarily due to the weather at this time of the year that light seeking insects infect Gurgaon .
We have taken appropriate measures and the same has been resolved. We do also apologize for the executive lounge timings not suiting your needs . We try and ensure that all outlets are available to our guests for as long as possible ; whilst also affording us an opportunity to maintain and service these areas during non peak hours . please do ask the Duty manager for an alternate place on future visits and we shall be delighted to support you in any way possible.

I thank you once again for your positive and appreciative feedback. We look forward to having more opportunities to serve you.

Best Regards
Kanika Hasrat

I am a regular visitor to Gurgaon buy have struggled to find hotel which provides value for money. Since my colleagues from Delhi always stay at JW Marriot in Pune and have appreciated services I decided to try Marriot Gurgaon

Unfortunately the experience has not been impressive because of following reason.

1 Breakfast spread excellent but service poor. In my last 3 stays never got what I ordered without someone messing it up. Either slow service or wrong order. Except Thai Chef who was exceptionally good.

2. Dinner at Zen - good food , great service but messed up with the bill. Tried to cheat by charging for something I did not order. Which is a typical problem in many bars in Delhi / Gurgaon

3. Room not made up for entire day.

My search for better hotel in Gurgaon continues.
