“This Place Is More Than Excellent.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

Planning a trip to Gir? Take my word you could not find a better place to stay. Everything about this place is nothing less than awesome.

Have not met staff who could be more friendly. Everyday over breakfast, lunch and dinner we were greeted with a broad smile ever ready to help and answer all questions. We had an early checkout (5am) they were happy to serve us coffee and toast.

Rooms have window ac, are good enough during peak summer. State of the art mobile toilet.

Charming setup, resort is set in mango orchard. Overlooking hiran river which attracts birds, added advantage.

Well organized safaris, resort has a couple of jeeps. En route you will be greeted by the local tribes.

Park is only 5 mins away.

They serve awesome food, great spread. Morning toast and coffee is blissful.

Great pricing, absolute value for money.

Sightings of the majestic lions made our stay even more pleasant.

I had been in this property during peak summer. And I must appreciate the way the property is maintained. They have a pool table, carrom, table-tennis in their club house. ACs are noisy and outdated but that's okay. Food is something you just cannot complaint. It is extremely delicious. Staffs were very coperative. I strongly recommend to stay in this property

This was my second visit in as many years. Continues to be as nice and comfortable as before. The reception counter is right at the entrance. Go up a level (up a couple of steps), and you enter a mango orchard. The tents are located in the shades of mango trees in rows along the two sides and the bottom of the garden.

The air conditioned tents are well fitted - double beds (actually twin beds joined together), luggage rack, writing table, chairs, electric fan, and bed side tables; adequate lighting arrangements; windows have net mesh other than pull string covers; same for door. Each tent has its own attached washroom/toilet (contains a clothes rack too, complementary toiletries), Room and washroom cleaned daily (when you are out for park rounds). In-room tea/coffee making facilities would be a thoughtful addition.

A small verandah is ideal for sitting out.

The dining hall, just opposite the reception counter, is a glass and wood panel structure. Spacious, pretty. Overlooks the Hiran river (visited in May both last year and this year; last year the channel was well filled with water but this year it was dry; hence did not see the colony of ibis and storks on the opposite bank this year). Breakfast, lunch and dinner is usually served buffet style but you can order a la carte (in that case, it is better to order in advance to save time). They serve Indian dishes mostly with a smattering of continental and Chinese dishes. A few reviewers have found that dishes served lacked variety - may be we were lucky - no such porblems during our stay).

Staff (reception, room service, kitchen dining hall) friendly and helpful and pays attention to small details, even when it is full house.

Located down an arterial road (rather dirty as it is next to a slum) off the main road and about five minutes away from Sinh Sadan, the forest department's office (from where you have to get forest entry permits, camera permits, compulsory guide, etc). The safari camp has a couple of jungle worthy vehicles of its own and can arrange for rides into the Gir Sanctuary (on separate payment). Has an in-house naturalist, Mr Bachhu Singh (friendly and knowledgeable).

Overall, a pleasant experience indeed.

When we were planning our trip, we saw a lot of options to stay in Gir - some very highly priced and some very basic options, it was difficult to find a good mid budget option. For INR 5000 a night with food, its a decent option to stay.

The tents are good, but because they are tents - you can hear people outside and of course they can hear you too. So if you are looking for complete privacy this is not the place to stay.

They should have pick up and drop to the safari gate at least during the safari timings, its about 2kms away from the main entrance and not everyone comes with a private vehicle.

Food is average, we were expecting authentic gujju food, but there was not a single dish from the region. The variety should be improved.

They organised for the Siddi dance, that was very good entertainment and nice gesture from the hotel. (happens only when the resort is full or a VIP is staying in the resort).

Overall i would come back here only if i have a vehicle with me.

Room Tip: Choose a corner tent, less neighbouring rooms for a quieter stay

Excellent location, comfortable semi-luxurious tents, plenty for the kids with TT, carom, pool table. Good food, they even arrange some cultural / tribal dance around a bon fire in the evening. Friendly helpful staff in the restaurant. Only the front desk has some attitude specially for the safari bookings. Its good to make the safari bookings well in advance else the front desk really acts pricey. They have a nice lake / water body in front (saw a crocodile) and around the same you could go on a birding trip (they have an extremely nice and friendly guide who takes you for birding in the late afternoon) .... Stayed for 2 nights - 3 day package and was extremely satisfied with the experience. One of the nights the lions were apparently 500m away from the resort cause we could hear massive roars. They could do well by opening a mini gym / a small pool or a massage center which would make it a top notch resort.

Room Tip: All rooms are good.

An interesting location near the village and park entrance with a river/lake on its doorstep which gave scope for additional wildlife viewing. The tents were well set out, spacious, quite well appointed with comfortable beds. The food was adequate but lacked variety. The site lacked a proper lounge in which to relax. The staff initiated little interaction with guests. Still, the stay might have proved an enjoyable experience had it not been for the presence of large parties of noisy and boisterous school children who ruined the potential ambience of the site and made mealtimes unpleasant. Prospective guests should be warned when booking that school parties are welcomed. Our stay was made worthwhile only by the wonderful wildlife sightings, especially the Asiatic lions.

As part of BNHS Camp we visited Lion Safari Camp last summer. Even though it was extremely hot weather, our stay was pleasant. This is because the way entire camp is set up. There are mango trees all over. In fact each tent is in between 2 mango trees. So much so that if you one can even pluck a mango. Also they do not have concrete surface to move inside tent. Concrete generally heats up and takes time to cool down.

There is river flowing just outside camp and one can see it from the dining area. I would recommend this to anyone who is planning to visit Gir region.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice. Depending on your liking you may opt for tents at the beginning of the camp, whi...
