“Needs more maintenance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

I booked the place at the last moment on finalising my trip to Ahmedabad. The room was not very well maintained, AC was giving lot of noise. Restaurant also does not offer a reasonable service. Staff is not very efficient. Overall the stay was not satisfactory for the money spent.

Ok this seems like a nice hotel, it has a nice reception, the room was clean, air-conditioned, nice bath/shower in the WC. But the staff really are rude. It's an expensive hotel compared to everywhere else we had stayed (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur) we were only using it as a stopover before Goa. What I would say is don't bother. For that price we should have had a comfortable bed (it was very hard) and TV with decent channels. As there isn't much to do in Ahmedabad, unless you're a businessman, then just a few more English speaking channels would have helped. We had movie channels and then the subscription ran out, when we asked them if they could top it up, they pretended they would and then didn't. TV would not usually be a big deal, but in a place like this it mattered. Don't go there. They don't seem to like foreign tourists much,

Worst experience i've had in my life. It was a last minute booking for a business trip. The building is very old and looks like it could give way any minute. The person at the reception desk was very warm and friendly. I reached late in the afternoon after a long journey so decided to eat at their restaurant before checking in to the room. The food was reasonable and decent. My experience from this point was downhill.
The elevator made weird crackling sounds and was a relief to alight in 1 piece. The room was in a very bad state, the sheets and towels were dirty, the room had a stale smell, the interiors gave a very gloomy look to the place, the lights were very dim and very difficult to read at night. There was no hot water (not really required in the hot Gujarat weather but its mentioned in their amenities)
Even with the windows closed you can hear the traffic loud and clear which made it difficult to sleep. The centralized A/C stops in the middle of night, I reached out for the fan regulator only for it to pop out in my hand. The mosquitoes in the room and the heat made it a very long night indeed.
I checked out from the hotel the very next day.

Room Tip: the photos of the hotel on the site told a completely different story you'll get better value f...

Very poor maintenance. The bathroom was not cleaned properly. To my horror, the bathroom drain was choked. And the receptionist was not ready to agree to it. Then got it cleared after shouting to her. Then started the ordeal to get hot water. Ultimately, they gave me a bucket of water.
The hotel charges 5.15% service tax on their printed tariff. This is absolutely illegal, as we have paid the service tax once by the cleartrip invoice. The hotel only gives you receipt of the money, and not tax invoice. I am taking with cleartrip the tax issues also.
PLEASE AVOID THE HOTEL.

I booked the hotel in August 2011 by seeing the pics and reviews given in this site, but I was really shocked to see the poor condition of the hotel. The hotel is very poorly maintained, with leaking roofs at corridors, dirty floor and corners, dusty mattresses, poorly maintained bathroom with water shortages and very noisy airconditioner.
We reached at middle of the night and had no other options but to spend the night there itself. There was no water available in the washbasin n flush. when enquired about the reason, they said that the waterpump is not working and running water will be available only by next day early morning and told us to adjust with hot water tap through which cold water was running.
Next day early morning itself we left the hotel. It was a really horrible experience.

Room Tip: i dont think any better rooms are available there.

I booked this hotel for my 1 Day stay in Ahmedabad mainly based on its rating and rates. And it is a unique little gem, really.

I have stayed at many hotels over the years, often luxury ones with impeccable details and fantastic designs. But the comparison fails: Hotel Damji is not a luxury place.

It is the perceptive and friendly service that makes it worthwhile staying in this small family-run hotel. The owners and staff are social at just the right level and they go to great length to make you feel at home.

The room I had was spacious and pretty, the breakfast is good.
