“truly a heritage hotel !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2014

it's a unique purely vegetarian heritage hotel of Ahmedabad, located in city centre just opposite Siddi Syed Jali(which is a well known heritage monument gifted as a souvenier to all delegates attending various conferences,seminars.symposia.etc.)It boasts of serving excellent unlimited gujrati cuisine in a thali at its Agashiye restaurant n a variety of chatpata gujrati snacks at its Greenhouse snax bar in the open. Excellent n hygienic service by decenttly dressed waiters n a smart lady taking care of a small shop which sells ayurvedic n herbal preparations for skin n hair n aromatherapy, adds to its charm. For a stay in this hotel, uniquely decorated rooms with a small balcony - sankheda furniture, also a swing (typical gujrati jhoola), n antique items add to the decor - a luxury for the tourists ! The hotel also has an indoor swimming ponl n a craft centre to entertain kids.A bit on the expensive side !!

It was an amazing experience at House of Mangal Das, Havelli; with 4 days for the price of 2 it was really a deal. The staff makes one feel at home. Though expensive (e.g. fruit platter with 5 banana + 5 chikoos for Rs 550 is too much) but the food and its Thali is really worth it.

The best part you don't feel like going out of hotel.

Luckily for us the staff upgrade our rooms from Delux to Super-delux which made it even more attractive.

Its better than staying in 5* hotel; cleanliness seems top priority to the staff.

Drawback: the breakfast could have been better; one thing that did not match the luxury - Fruit platter looked very cheap quality. Though we are not voracious eater still we used to eat sumptuous breakfast at 5* hotels buffet breakfasts with varieties of items to choose from. But here it was very limited (5-6 items) but severed with Royal grandeur; seems guest were charged for that and not for food.

So, I will deduct One Star for not providing a good breakfast; otherwise everything deserves top rating.

Room Tip: Choose room on top floor. Ground floor has no windows / no sunlight.

Beautiful building and fantastic decor. Spacious rooms, helpful staff. The location is good and the restaurants are a particular highlight. Eating Gujarati thali on the rooftop under the stars is particularly magical

The Place is unique in Ahmedabad given it is a Gigantic House in the middle of the city converted into a hotel and restaurant. The ambience is very soothing and we enjoyed gujarati thali in candle light on the terrace. The food is delicious and the service is very good. BUT when the bill arrives, you are forced to think whether it was worth it! If you haven't been there its definitely worth visiting once!

The House of MG is a unique property in ahmedabad with heritage type rooms and ambiance.
The Gujarati Food is amazing and the rooms and service are good.
I felt this is over priced in terms of stay as well as food charges.
Since this is right in the heart of old city, dont expect silent and serene time.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

The House of MG is a hotel, but it is a hotel built in and around a stunning house built in the early 20th century by an Ahmedabad textile king. The house is extraordinary - more like a cheerful catacomb than a normal hotel, and I suspect that there are no room duplicates - they're all different. Our room was enormous - it must have been over 10 X 10 M in size, and was generously equiped with fine furniture. The unique and delightful physical plant of this hotel was enhanced by the hotel staff, who are willing to do almost anything (within legal limits!) to make your stay better. There are two restaurants in the hotel, the "Green Room" on the ground floor for casual breakfast/lunch/dinner, and a restaurant on the roof that does traditional dinners. Try them both.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms are on the street side of the hotel and may be noiser that those towards the back.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

The House of MG is a historic property that has been converted into a boutique type hotel. Because of this each room is different and interesting. We had a wonderful room, a large space with a large bathroom. To get to it you had to walk through the room where the public toilets are...not a concern, just a curiosity. The property itself was interesting and the location is perfect for exploring the old city. The room staff was wonderful. The front desk staff was spotty but usually helpful. The boutique was dark and thus difficult to get a good idea of the colors of the textiles and the staff were completely indifferent to our presence. The restaurant on the main floor is casual with average food and wait staff. If we return to Ahmedabad we would consider other accommodation options but this location was perfect for us and the historic element is very interesting. If this review seems confusing, that is an accurate reflection of our experience at the House of MG.
