Having read a lot of positive reviews, both this column, as well Shakahari, merit courtyard, we visited this evening. Having arrived in downstair courtyard, we learnt that a vegetarian place is on upper floor, so we decided to go upstair. We not that all four reviews are from Ahmedabad residence, our experience completely different. There was a problem, that the whole area was so dark, that it was difficult to read menu. There was possibility of Gujarati Thali at 650, Choices from three fixed menu at 850, 1000 and 1300. The problem I found every menu was fixed, in terms of what starter you can have in each menu, what soup, what main menu and what sweets. There was no flexibility. Third possibility to order from A la carte menu.
My wife ordered Gujarati Thali and I went for fixed menu. My wife found every item in thali was sweet. Probably best suited to some gujarati people. All farsan and sub jee were sweet. Certainly unpalatable for no-gujarati and diabetics. I asked to replace my paneer starter for so called "Sarsov ke phool" It turned out to be broccoli florets, so salty that it was uneatable. It was replaced with paneer starter which was reasonable. From main menu, only thing I found eatable was dal and raita. Both vegetables were poor quality.
My wife found service for thali was not as it should be, when she asked for extra poor( she had to ask rather waiter asking her) it took more than 12 minutes, by the time all food gone cold.
I found similar problem for my side, but it did not matter as I had lost interest in eating.
I had to wait 23 min. for sweet dish and my wife had to wait 28min for a cup of tea.
On my next table, three people sat, they appeared to be local persons. They ordered thali and they seem to be enjoying. I could see the food in this restaurant is for this group of people, who would find this food excellent, but I would advise to avoid this place.
