This hotel was the only time we ventured out of the budget range into mid-range territory, mostly to get somewhere quiet as Ahmedabad is a very noisy city and we had done some serious travelling and needed a good night's sleep. A single room was 750 R and a double was 950 R. We actually stayed three nights because of train availability was very low and it took this long to get sleeper berths even with the help of the really helpful railway booking staff.
It is a very quiet place, tucked down an alley off the main Relief Road, but is also very well positioned between the old city and the river, and quite close to railway station, so location is good as it is central but away from traffic noise. The rooms are excellent, quite large with nice bed, efficient bathroom and quiet fan. The hotel also has a lift, which was another first. One strange anomaly was the lift only had three floors but our room was 421 and it took my wife a while to find our room again.
The reception staff were great, and helped us find a pharmacy urgently on a Sunday, full marks there. As we had an evening sleeper to catch, we asked about staying beyond checkout time of 12 O.clock but were told it was full room rate if we stayed the afternoon so we got a retiring room at station instead.
We did try room service, which was from 7am to 10pm with usual tourist fare, and pretty expensive and you couldn't just add it to bill. This is what made it a pain because of the complete avarice of the room staff who hung around for tips, had to be prompted for a proper bill or just "forgot" to return with the change. One, who looked about 12, even propositioned our friend to pay for a "late night visit", and she is 55!
Apart from this attitude, the staff were well trained but this constant hassle did spoil what would have been an excellent stay, hence the lower rating I have given this hotel.
