I visited Ahmedabad for the first time in my life on 9th July 2014. I was scheduled to conduct a workshop at the Metropole Hotel in Ahmedabad on 10th and 11th July 2014.
I arrived at Ahmedabad by flight at 11 PM and the hotel car was waiting for me. The hotel is just about 20 mins distance from the airport. The journey was uneventful.
At the hotel, the check in was quite efficient. I had already informed the hotel about my late arrival and they had made arrangements for me.
The Room: The room allocated to me was pretty nice, about 200 Square Feet. There was a wardrobe with the usual hangers and an electronic safe to store valuables. The bathroom was decent enough, even though the shower could be improved as the water pressure was not good enough. Maybe the shower head needs a cleaning?
The double bed was luxurious, with a nice, firm mattress and good bed linen. The room had the usual mini bar, but without any alcohol - remember, this is Gujarat, a dry state!
The TV was large and the choice of channels was OK.
Food: The food was served either in the cafe at the ground floor, or in the room. I opted for room service. Service was OK, could be a tad faster. Usually, if you order an item, you expect it in 15-20 mins. Here it took more than 25 mins both times. And I did not order anything exotic!
Conference room: We were allocated a conference room for our workshop. The room could seat 20 people with some effort. Thankfully, we were only 15. Tea, coffee and snacks were served in the room itself. It was a good effort. When we had a technical problem right on day 1, the hotel's tech team solved it promptly!
Overall, a good place for business travel. Now only if the Gujarat government removed prohibition and allowed a fellow to have a drink or two after a hard day!
