“Goa's hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

This review is a little late in the day but this place deserves a mention.

We planned our trip to Goa around Xmas time despite the warning that Goa at this time will be exorbitant and we not be able to get anything. One of our criteria in choosing a place was that it should be on or near the beach. What is the fun of staying in Goa and not able to walk to the beach whenever you want? We found this place at the end of Candolim beach - a clean & quite beach unlike Baga or Calangute.

We sent an email to book a room and were promptly replied back with the confirmation. The price for the room was unimaginable at the time in Goa.

The place has a huge garden upfront where you can sit and relax. The rooms are big and airy. The service is prompt and the beer they served is always chilled.

This was the fourth time we have stayed here and as always we were not disappointed. It is a small family run guesthouse approx 3/4 of a mile from the centre of Candolim. The road the guesthouse stands on goes down to the beach 5 mins,so a great position. The rooms are modest but the staff work hard at keeping them clean.TV,Aircon and safety deposit boxes are available for a reasonable charge. It is well run quiet and the garden is very well kept. There is a small well stocked bar that is nice to sit round in the cool of the evening. The whole place is presided over by Andrea who when we were there was recovering from illness and so her Mum was doing most of the day to day running.Even so standards did not slip. we had a wonderful quiet and peaceful 3 weeks and have alredy booked a month for next year.

Room Tip: All the rooms are similar but on the first floor there is a larger family room this is the one we tr...

We have just come back from staying at Per Avel for nine days and really feel that the comments on this hotel need to be put into some perspective.

This not Benidorm, India still has a lot of poverty and even in the road of this hotel the locals collect water from wells. India has very good quality accommodation at a price. Per Avel is at the lower end of guest house type accommodation but is priced accordingly, we paid about £57 for nine days. The accommodation is modest, and similar to basic accommodation I have previously stayed in on the Greek Islands and in Turkey. The garden is pretty and whilst the room was basic the shower was good. The breakfast of toast and coffee is usually the norm at guest house accommodation in Goa, with juice etc extra. However we do agree that this is a bit bland after a few days and we were paying for extras such as poached eggs. With regard to mosquito repellents in rooms, Goa is in an area where malaria is a risk so any visitors should travel prepared for mosquitoes. Yes, there is a charge for the safe but this is only 40p a day!!

In summary, this is basic accommodation that is priced accordingly. For a couple who require somewhere near the beach and the restaurants and who are not looking for luxury then Per Avel is a good option.

The hotel is situated in a quiet area of Candolim, the staff are quite friendly. the rooms are typical of Goa and no frills very basic, (although the most basic I have stayed in all places i have been in India) when we arrived at around midnight the whole reception was locked up and boarded up, we had to get people out of bed to get our key to our room, if this had been our first visit to India i imagine it would have been quite scary. was just a little belwildered why the reception would close given they were expecting quests?? this hotel is OK, however there is far better than this out there and cheaper,
the biggest let down by far was the owner, she was incredibly miserable and charged extra for EVERYTHING....we had a problem with our safety deposit box, it wouldnt open with all of our money inside, the young staff members tried to help us, but she was the only one with the overide code, she wasnt at the hotel during this time and showed up 3 days later... very frustrating.....

this holiday hell home, needs to be struck from all holiday sites, rooms tiny 11x10 ft double bed smelly and stained 1 small iron chair 1 bedside table18x12 in 1suitcase stand, thats it. bathroom tiny, shower took 10 minutes for hot water to come through,it also sprays water everywhere including all over the toilet seat.trying to sleep at night is impossible, theres a peace of waste ground opposite,i counted 15 dogs living there, and thats not all of them,in the same small road other propertys own 2 or 3 dogs each making a total of around 25,and when 1 barks or howls they all start,it goes on and on and on,till you might fall asleep around 4 or 5 in the morning through sheer exaustion.so if you have booked this dump think again.this is a fair and honest opinion

My daughter and her boyfriend on their first trip to beautiful Goa had the total misfortune to stay at this 'hotel' On arrival at 7am they were told that they couldn't check-in until 12pm. No problem, however, it was after 1pm when their room was made available to them.
If you could call it a room. There was nowhere to put anythin apart from a 'dingy' wardrobe. The sheets on the bed may have been 'clean'but were stained and the towels were awful. We use better towels to dry our dog.
The 'shower' was but a trickle of cold water and when told this the owner promised it would be sorted. This was not the case, The folling day, nothing had been done and my daughter's boyfriend was given an electric element to heat a bucket of water. The owner promised it would be fixed the next day or she would allocate them a different room. That never materialised and luckily myself and my husband were also in Candolim and they were able to shower at our hotel. Needless to say, we also found them a better place to stay but one wonders what would have happened if we hadn't been ther to help them out.
This place out to be avoided at all cost. The owner is not interested in the comfort of her guests and all tour operators should under no circumstances send their clients to what can only be described as the worst accommodation imaginable.
