“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

When in Goa, who wants to stay in a hotel room!! We visited this hotel last year in March end, as we won a 2 nights travel voucher. But the charm of Goa made us stay for few days more.
The hotel is like a cluster of apartments, surrounding a swimming pool. Each room gets a dry kitchen and a balcony. Pool facing ones are better, but are mostly occupied. Swimming pool is good. A life guard is always present.
Its near to Candolim beach.
To be honest, we used the hotel, primarily for passing our nights. Because the days would be spent at various beaches. All in all, our stay was good, except for the last night, when people in a nearby room were too noisy after drinking.
There is a parking area also. Avoid parking your car under any coconut tree. Coconuts keep falling!!
SO if you are going to use it just for your stay, go for it. Save your money for other good things in Goa. Dont expect luxury from this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for pool facing rooms.

Just back from a week in Goa. Sadfly this hotel could be so much better. Stayed in the similar Phoenix Park last year which is better.
Good points is that it is nicely situated, not far from the supermarket and central to Candolim.
Staff are helpful and rectified problems quickly. Rooms are clean and pool looks nice (never used it).
Bad points, RUSSIANS ! full of them, dont bother to say Hi they just ignore you. Goa is being taken over by them.
Room could do with some modernisation. Was great to have a 42" flat screen TV but the shower tiles were cracked and grouting black, smell from drainage and stained towels.
Also staff dont have to deliver your welcome pack at 7am on your first night.
Breakfast was very basic, we only went the once as it was a let down, hard crispy toast and horrid sweet tea. No cereal, fruit etc and you had to pay extra for eggs!!!
If you just want a room to crash this is ideal, hot shower and a bed no probs any more look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms a must

Just got back from 2 glorious weeks in Goa. By Goa'n standards this Hotel was impressive. We had a large room on the 3rd floor overlooking the Pool which was spotless every day, Ok the toilet seat was a bit rickety this is our 3rd visit to the area and I have to say it is the best Hotel yet. I would have given it 5 stars but for the floor in the dining area was absolutely disgusting

Room Tip: Choose a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor overlooking the Pool

Didnt enjoy the stay here at all, the staff were rude and over charged us on many occasions! The rooms were cleaned regularly and good sizes, the pool was clean and eating area also. If you are booking to stay here then makesure you book above ground floor as we found there were lots of pests and also try to get a room by the pool as if you have kids with you its eaasier to keep an eye!

Room Tip: book to sleep above ground floor and round the pool area

Apologies first of all - this is a long one! Try to keep reading.......!!

We've been coming to Goa for the past 10 years with my adult family and have always stayed in the North. We've had holidays in hotels in Arpora as well as Candolim and had short stays further north in beach huts of varying standards. Over this period we've seen some really dreadful rooms with poor hygiene, but, without fail, all the staff we've come across have been lovely and this has sort of made up for all the shortcomings.

We'd read some poor reviews about the Alor Grande so were expecting the usual 1 star standard but, there you go, it wasn't as if we were staying at the hotel for longer than necessary anyway as we are all beach-bunnies. We pulled up at the hotel about midday and were quite surprised to see it looking very efficient with proper uniformed staff behind the desk and a smiling waiter offering a cool glass of juice.

When we were shown to our rooms, we went through the outdoor restaurant and pool area and what a shock! A nice one, I hasten to add. The outside area looked great - people sitting talking and laughing round the pool - good start. Then the rooms... talk about being a bit gobsmacked. Huge kingsize bed, with crisp clean white sheets and pillows and thick white towels. Bathroom actually had a proper wet room shower (with new curtain!) and a toilet that worked! There was a separate storage room with a sink, fridge, wardrobe and shelving.

We had a poolside room with balcony on the 1st floor which was ideal, but a bit noisy in the morning when the staff set up the tables & chairs in the restaurant outside. Not a problem. Other half of the family had a quieter room at the back overlooking a small landscaped garden and theirs was the same standard. The rooms were cleaned and towels replaced every day.

Inclusive breakfast was the standard fare for a package holiday - tea, coffee, juice, toast, bread, jam and additionally an indian breakfast for those who wanted it. All in the price. Of course, you could order from the a la carte menu for a small extra charge and we did on a couple of occasions. Example - mixed fruit platter (enormous) for about £1.50 and two eggs on toast for £1. Can't beat it.

ALL the staff were friendly, polite and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. A special mention must go to Shakher and his colleague (sorry, forgotten his name) who worked at the pool. (Hate to call them pool boys) They were so kind when we were ill for a couple of days and waited on us hand and foot. Without taking their eyes off the pool they joined in our fun once we were better and we were sad when we had to leave them.

The whole hotel was given a refurb at the end of last year and this really has elevated it to a much higher standard than we ever expected. We're so pleased we went there and will definitely go back on our annual trip next year. Can't recommend it highly enough to everyone.
Go and enjoy!

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor poolside have restricted view of pool.

I was very happy with my stay at this resort. The rooms were large and airy and kept in good clean condition. The staff were friendly and very helpful. This resort is well situated with shops, restaurants and the beach only minutes away. I will be going back again, in fact I have already booked my next stay. Excellent value for money.

I was very pleased with the quality of service provided, it was no less than what you would expect from a 5*resort and at times exceeded our expectations. Even with the hotel having nearly 100% occupancy rate our stay was very personal, which shows the true nature of any hotel at these times.

We would like to say a special thank to Mr Angelo (General Manager) for being absolutely fantastic and providing an fabulous dining experience during our stay.

We will definitely be recommended people to come and stay at the Alor Grande and hope to be back soon.

Cheers!
Ben
