“Not worth the value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

I have been here twice with family, last year it was worth the price but in 2013 they've increased fares by 50%. Its definitely not worth it. ACs don't work very well at night and they give poor excuse that there is overload.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

I stayed here 29 April-4 May 2013. It was my first time in Goa so no idea what to expect.
I was recommended the hotel en route at Mumbai Airport, as I'd not pre-booked anything, so decided to look it up.
It was pretty much the last week of the tourist season in Candolim, and everything was packing up around. Not that this was an issue for me, I just wanted a quiet few days, so it was ideal. I initially booked for 2 nights, but ended up staying 5. I suppose this says all you need really. Excellent staff, breakfast ok, friendly welcome from owner. The rooms probably need an upgrade, but they did a job. Aircon was spot on, as was the shower, and a load of choice of sports with English commentary in my room. All ideal, as the weather was very very hot!
I probably could have got somewhere for the same rate, which was more modern, but I was happy with what I paid, and also the location.
I chose to eat elsewhere, mainly as I found a place I loved on the first night. That said, the guest who did eat here spoke well of the food. For the food snobs out there, is it ok for other restaurants to serve Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese, etc in Candolim? But not for someone to serve English food? In 10 days in India, I had food from a variety of cuisines, why not English????

This restaurant is clear about what it does and what it wants to be. It is the better for that. It offers a menu of mainly English cuisine and meets a demand from a specific section of the British tourist entourage who don't want spicy food. At night the place looks smart with indoor and outdoor seating - the busy main road obscured by a wall. Its popularity is self evident and when other English pubs and restaurants are empty it does well - that speaks for itself. Choices include home made pies, steaks, burgers , cheese and spinach bakes and old time favourites like prawn cocktails. Staff are friendly , helpful and service was efficient. There is karaoke most nights and the diners get dressed up to eat here. For my personal taste and choice of cuisine this would not some where I would eat regularly. But as a change it was fine and I can see why fir many people it is a popular and regular choice. It does what it says it does and pretty well too.

We didn't stay here, but came in for an evening meal. We've ben to Candolim 6 times over the past 13 years and have eaten here many times before, but this time we were very disappointed. We usually go for local food, but my husband likes a fix of something British from time to time, so as usual, we thought Ruffles could deliver. The service was painfully slow ..... we waited just under an hour for our food and when it eventually came, we wish we hadn't bothered. The food was just thrown on the plate and was really sloppy and unappetising, it was piled high but was awful quality, Staff were thin on the ground and those who were there weren't overly welcoming and there was no atmosphere at all. To be honest, it was full of stereotype sweaty 'Brits' in vests and shorts and resembled a working mens club ..........It felt more like the North of England than India. It used to have a really nice feel, but something has changed, and it's not for the better. Sorry guys, but when we next visit Candolim, we'll give you a miss I'm afraid.

Stayed 15 nights in Feb 2013. Great location. Very helpful staff. Only had drinks in pool bar so can't comment on food. Front bar very full every night although under different ownership. Fan in room runs on backup during frequent power cuts which was a pleasant surprise. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a budget option.

We visited Ruffles last year and had such a lovely meal that we definitely wanted to return this year. We reserved a table as there was 12 of us. As last year the food and service was excellent, being with such a large group they managed to serve us all at once and the food was piping hot. Once again we will be going back next year. The restaurant is very clean, plenty of room to relax after you have had your meal. I would recommend a trip to Ruffles if staying in Goa.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We booked this hotel in April 2012 for January 2013.
The hotel must have over booked as we were shown to our room in the hotel behind Ruffles (Seabreeze beech resort Sinquerium). No explanation was offered and we didn't ask for one as the Seabreeze met our needs and we were able to use Ruffles facilities and go there for breakfast. I will review Seabreeze in a separate review.
We were asked to move rooms by Ruffles hotel management for the last 2 days of our stay as there was a large booking who wanted to have rooms together.
Ruffles-
Staff were friendly and approachable.
Food- we only experienced the breakfast which consisted of complimentary tea and toast. We purchased extras for a very small charge. The main restaurant seemed to be busy in the evenings with people eating the pie and mash or other choices from the menu. We didn't eat there as there were so many other places to choose from with in easy walking distance from the hotel.
Bar- we used the bar by the pool, which served up a decent kingfisher- there were plenty of other drinks to choose from
Room- a reasonable size, one small wardrobe and two single beds pushed together. The bed was not as comfortable as the bed in The Seabreeze.
There was a fridge stocked with beers and soft drinks. The hotel has a rule that only food and drink purchased at Ruffles may be consumed in the room.
The room was cleaned daily, towels are changed every other day.
The Air conditioner worked well but was noisy. The room may benefit from a lick of paint and the curtains a 90 degree wash as all appeared to be grubby in appearance.
The pool and communal areas was clean. There were sun loungers available by the pool. Some people had taken to reserving a lounger for themselves by putting a towel on it then disappearing.
The hotel offered entertainment most nights and seemed lively in the evening.
The hotel is about a 10 min walk to the beech down a road past stalls and shops where beech wear, jewelry and other bits and pieces can be haggled for. There are a few opportunistic sellers on the beech which was annoying towards the end of the holiday.
There were a few families staying here. Parents with small children need to be aware that the pool is not fenced off and very easy for small children to fall in if they are not being watched carefully.
