“Best Chicken-Fried Steak in NM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

I actually got in trouble saying that Sunset Run had the best Chicken-fried steak around. Probably shouldn't have said it to my wife. But it's true. It's a huge portion with two sides, perfectly made white gravy, all at a very reasonable price.

Wayne has built a friendly, clean, fun restaurant on the outskirts of Alamogordo, NM that I -- and now several of my friends -- will NOT miss, anytime we're in town.

The service has always been good and if there IS a problem, the owner/manager is almost always around. So quitchorgriping, "Sixpack" -- McDonald's is right up the road.

“Nothing special.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

It was just okay. The chicken fried steak was below average, but the gravy was good. The had homemade potato chips which very tasty, but way toooo salty. I think it is my last meal here.

Yes the goats are cute. Hope they don't end up you you plate.

“Off the main drive but a definite must eat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Great bbq!!! We found this restaurant off Hwy 54 (near the movie theater) and stopped on a whim. The service was great and the food was even better. Reasonable prices as well. It is definitely worth the drive over!

“I'm never going back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013 via mobile

I met a car club there. So we had a pretty sizable group. There wasn't many other people in the restaurant so it's not like the staff was overwhelmed by our group. That was the worst service I have ever had for food that wasn't very good. I hear they have good chicken fried steak but I'm not going back to find out.

“The Goats Are Cute...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

That's about the only good thing to say about the Sunset Run. The food is overpriced for this area, the flavor is only on the skin of the ribs. The green chili cornbread is good. Not so with the pinto beans - almost no flavor (thank goodness for salt). The dining area is nice with beer and wine served and a big TV on the wall. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The restrooms are nicely decorated as is the dining area. They claim to be owned by Vets, yet there is no offer of a discount for other vets or active duty. Oh Yeah - you eat free if you're over 100.
