Best thing to see are the minatures on the first floor. Otherwise - it is much more interesting to go to the City Museum (out of the front door and take a diagonal to the left) for a fascinating museum about the building of the city and the work of various architects involved with the city, including Le Corbusier.

A visit to this quite Museum in one corner of the city is quite enlightening. I had never realised that Chandigarh is sitting atop history...Indus valley civilisation. Amazing!!! Loved visiting this place.

The building is actually a complex of three attractive buildings in a parkland setting. The museum and art gallery is well laid out and has good collections of ancient and modern Indian art - but the separate building which tells the story of the City is the real gem - the displayed correspondence between the City Fathers of Punjab's new capital and the Indian government in Delhi is by turns touching, moving and occasionally hilarious. Highly recommended

It cost 10 Rupees to get in - I would happily have paid 50 times that. It was substantially better than many other museums we visited in India, including the National Museum in Delhi. The museum exhibits were generally interesting, well curated and just thought out. The art on display was far more interesting than a lot of art in India and had clearly been very carefully selected. Recommend everyone stops by the museum when in Chandigarh.
