There is a vast contrast between the premier Taj hotels in Delhi and Bombay and this property, supposed to be the best hotel in Hyderabad -- at least the top of the three Tajs in the capital of Andhra Pradesh. How this hotel is included among the Leading Hotels of the World (usually a mark of clear distinction) is a bit of a mystery.

As a frequent Taj patron across India, we were a bit disappointed with this property, which is showing its age. The main trouble is lack of staff training. This is evident throughout the property from front desk to restaurants.

Time and again we found that if we needed something taken care of efficiently we had to go to the hotel manager, named Elvis. So my advice is if you have anything beyond the most basic requests -- ask Elvis. Otherwise you are going to find yourself tempted to give a kick in the rear to most personnel here.

The hotel's restaurants, especially, need improvement considering the prices being charged. We tried three of them and all were lacking in terms of service and quality of food. Hyderabad is set to become a world class city but if this is the best that can be done in what is supposed to be the top 5-star hotel in Hyderabad then the city and the Taj have a ways to go.

The tea lounge and the bar are well-stocked variety wise. They are probably the best two things about this hotel.

Now here's an all-time classic miscommunication: I called the front desk to ask for "a doctor." About ten minutes later a hotel staffer comes to the room bringing me an "adapter" for the electricity outlet. I finally did get the doctor about a half hour later. I told him what had happened and he remarked that once he showed up at a guest's room who remarked that he had called the front desk asking for an "adapter" to be sent to the room!

We needed to make a number of calls to IT services to keep the internet running in the room. They responded each time promptly and efficiently and we do give praise here for the response and service. There's no choice in internet packages between 24 hours and 15 days which was a hassle for us as we had video files to upload that were broken in connection when the time limit elapsed.

We couldn't get the LAN working in the first room we were given and had to move to another floor, foregoing the nice flat screen TV in the original room.

Also the tacky "classical" European decor throughout the property must be noted. Perhaps the designers thought that awful rococo marble statues of nymphs in various state of undress are classy; we thought it dreadful and would prefer to see artworks that reflect the rich heritage of Hyderabad and India. The hotel and many of the rooms are clearly in need of a makeover.

We did use the hotel car service from and to the airport, which is recommended as the ride can take an hour. For moving about town the hotel service is over-priced and the front desk can arrange a more economical outside car hire and driver. But be absolutely certain that you are getting a driver who knows the city and can communicate in a language you speak. Believe it or not, we got one driver who couldn't find his way around Banjara Hills.

At this stage we're not sure what alternatives to offer for Hyderabad. The Novotel gets good reviews from the IT crowd but it's not in Banjara Hills. The Sheraton may be a better bargain when it comes to rates.

The hotel needs to refurbish its rooms as it looks dated with CRT TV and all. The layout is good and gives a very good view. The location is prime and service is great.

As a business hotel, Taj Krishna is located very conveniently in the heart of the city. The service they offer is very personalised, the rooms very well furnished and the ambience at the property simply superb.

As a business visitor, I needed promot service which I got on every occassion. Moreover, the front desk staff ensured sensed I was unwell, and ensured that I was very well looked after.

Keep it up guys...great proactive service!!

We booked this hotel having visited taj in Bangalore and Dehli. The Taj Krishna is nowhere near the standard of the other establishments. Everything basically looks a bit more run down. Staff is nice though, and food ok, but no more than average within this segment. Given the price for the room, it is absolutely not worth it. There are other hotels in the city that offers much better, newer and more modern facilities. (i.e. Novotel, Mariott etc.). Btw. if you intend to do a workout, the fitness centre is pathetic.

Ou experience of the Taj Krishna was clouded by an unfortunate checkin. We had had a long day flying from Aurangabad to Mumbai and a connecting flight from Mumbai to Hyderabad. When we arrived we were hoping for a quick check-in and a hot bath. Instead we had a man on reception who had many other things on his mind. He sat us at his desk and then proceeded to engage on his other business, taking phone calls and ignoring us while we got increasingly irritated. When he eventually got around to checking us in he knew we were less than pleased with our reception - we had been travelling for eight weeks in India staying at Taj hotels or equivalents and this was the only time we were met with discourtesy and inefficiency. A bad start.

We thought the hotel not nearly as good as it thinks it is.

The lobby is pretentious and heavy in Edwardian/Indian taste with dark pillars and French 19th century paintings - all rather oppressive. The restaurant that opens onto the lobby fills the space with pervasive food smells.

Most unlike Taj. Charmless and unwelcoming. It was one of the very rare places in our tour that we didn't enjoy, and wouldn't return.
