“Charming Ancient India Ambiance, Food is near to best in Hy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the resort very much. Atiroopa, the main restaurant, has wonderful food and vibe, with attention to detail. The classic Indian motif (e.g. of hand-carved dark wood) is present in the architecture, furnishings and even the serving dishes. In fact, it recurs in different forms (sometimes as old-looking stone sculptures of deities) around the entire resort. The operation clearly makes an effort to be environmentally responsible more than one normally sees in India. When you step outside your hotel room, it's into an atrium that's open to the elements on one side, but also nicely shaded with potted plants, etc. This is apparently a conscientious alternative to an enclosed space with a/c set at full blast. One night we ate at a romantic outdoor secluded nook, away from most buildings. It had overhanging trees decked out in fairy lights. There was a type of water feature that passed underneath, making a nice sound, mingling with that of the wild parrots who live there. We found the service to be attentive and polite. It's a good place to sequester western visitors who might otherwise drink tap water or eat street food. All the water is pre-treated before it gets to the rooms or the kitchen. Also, we noted a wide selection of wedding venues, some in secluded areas of the resort. One tiny drawback: if you require mustard on your (veggie) burger, you will need to bring your own. When we asked for some via room service, the kitchen staff had no idea what it was.

Room Tip: Apparently one can choose either a cottage (w/ presumably a kitchenette & can house a family or...

Some 30 min drive from Subhash Nagar. Its an excellent Place to spend your day

You can walk around the property admiring the landscape and the rooms which has been constructed beautifully

They also have swiming Pools for kids and elders. Along with the same you can also opt for Indoor and out door games if you wish - they are at chargeable basis - but worth the amount

Availing of all these facilities or which ever you would like to you get a complimentary drink with it

This resort promotes itself, right under its marquee name as a '4 star resort and spa'. It also proudly proclaims itself as ISO 9001 2008-certified. Um, well, I suppose it depends on the yardstick used. And, who's doing the counting. The bathroom was, well, quaint. I noted a plastic pail complete with long-handled baler which I assumed was there for the times water might be unavailable from the tap and one needed a wash. Scouting introduced me to the concept of the 'bath from a bucket' so it was not alarming. It was only on the very last day of my stay that an experienced Hyderabad visitor advised they were there so I could get hot water from the bottom tap. Made sense too, since for all the days I never had warm, much less hot water from the tap! The towels were so discolored - they were once white - that I took to wetting them and calling for replacements. They always responded 'yes sah' and came straight away. With another equally dingy set. Such polite people though you couldn't get angry with them. I gave up.

Flies and mosquitoes were abundant. It appears the flies were tolerated; they swarmed the breakfast buffet, for one. They fogged for mosquitoes every night. But you could not escape the swarm at the front door. To be fair, a notice on the back of the entry door did warn that as the place was full of trees and greenery, you'd see 'a few' around. And when you did, please call in for help. The thing is if those numbers of them were soldiers, I could have drafted them and be at least a brigadier!

Internet service comes in maximum 4-hour blocks and only with considerable effort. It appears they prefer to provision the wireless access in 1-hour increments; at the end of period, a staff member would come round with a book for you to sign another chit. It took a lot of effort to get beyond the 'yes sah' and finally get a 4-hour chit. Electrical power disruptions were frequent.

Yes, there were big noisy parties in the restaurant next to my room, the drumming and celebration going on well beyond midnight. Laundry service was excellent! ANd, very affordable.

Some very nice people staff the place. But the resort itself is not ready for prime time.

This hotel is in a rural extension of Hyderabad. Which means it is in a quiet location, though it is not necessarily quiet. Details on that below. It also means it takes 2 hours to get to the airport at rush-hour (which happened from 7pm to 9 pm) and perhaps 90 mins if you are lucky.

For those who are familiar only with Indian hotels, this place must look ok. The rooms are sizable. The smallest room is 330 sq ft (30 sq m). I had a studio, which is 512 sq ft (almost 50 sq m). The site's photos are accurate. I had a two-seater sofa on on side of the room, a writing desk, a glass-top table. and still there is room to walk around. There is a small alcove in my "studio" room for the wardrobe and dressing area just outside the bathroom, separated by a curtain from the bedroom.

They come with fans and aircon. There is a kettle and a thermos flask at the bedside. There is hotwater in the bathroom. The shower stall has a sliding door to seal off water. The water has wire netting to keep out bugs. And there is an exhaust fan in the bathroom.

But it's not up to international standards. As I write this, this hotel ranks #14, ahead of the marbled Taj Banjara, which is 18. This hotel should be in to 60s-100.

The aircon is extremely noisy. As I am sensitive to noise, I had to sleep with earplugs. Whatever service I needed--the cart to pick me up, wifi password, checkout--I had to call two to three times. I stayed one night and it was noisy with some kind of party going on past 10.30 pm. As I left, a major wedding party was being organised.

Food was serviceable. At breakfast, the coffee was thick and I saw why: they let it boil in the pot.

If you are prepared to put up with the noise, and drink tea in the morning, this place might be ok.

One more thing: the shower stall has an overhead shower and a plastic pail with a matching plastic mug to use for showering. Fill the plastic pail with water and use it to shower. This practice is in most Indian cities, in case there is an outage and the water stops. Use ONLY the hotwater tap. Wash from your feet up. It will be chilly because the hotwater takes a long time to heat up. As you work your way up, it gets progressively warmer and anyway your body adjusts. So showering is tolerable.

Our group stayed in Aalankrita as part of a large wedding party. Overall, I feel that the resort is a fabulous weekend getaway and is also an excellent venue for wedding parties.

However, those who want some peace and quiet should make sure there are no wedding celebrations taking place during their visit!

Rooms: 4/5

The signature suites are among Aalankrita’s finest rooms and deservedly so. They score highly on all counts - extremely spacious, well-furnished and comfortable.

The same can be said about the ‘living room’ area, which lies in between the two rooms. The presence of a bar counter is an added plus for those who want to hold a small private party.

The bathrooms are pretty big and well-stocked with toiletries, which was a big help considering I’d left out a few things thanks to some last-minute packing.

Service: 4/5

Requests for room service were dealt with promptly and the housekeeping was efficient.

Also, at weddings, I am quite accustomed to asking a waiter for something and never seeing him again for the rest of the evening. But I was quite surprised to find that this was not the case over here, which makes it yet another little point in Aalankrita’s favour.

Food: 4/5

The wedding food was good. We also had an enjoyable meal at Atiroopa, one of Aalankrita’s restaurants.

Overall, I’d rate this place very highly and would definitely recommend it to those looking for a good getaway from the city. However, do keep in mind my advice about marriage celebrations!
