My husband and I chose to basically wing it on this one :) we did this trip via cruise ship. When you get off the boat if you walk away from the curise ship area (mostly shopping stuff) and all of there excursion folks you walk up a hill (definatley do able) and there you will find folks looking to give you tours of all kinds. Snorkling, going to the beach, tour of town, shopping whatever you are looking for and for much less than the prices from the boat. The people are friendly and the island is beautiful. We ended up with a guy who charged us $20 for him and $30 for the driver. We gave each a $10 tip on top of it which we did not pay until the end. They took us to the beach, shopping, saw the whole island and even ate. (we asked the tour guy to join us as he was very informative). They stayed with us the whole time but gave us space so we did not feel pressured at all. They made sure if we had any questions to take care of things and drove us back to the port with plenty of time. Definately recomend it.
