We did two tours with Arch while in Gambia. The first one was the 4 in 1 tour which I highly recommend. We had a great day and we saw lots of interesting things. It was not a touristy tour, we experienced the real Gambia and our guide Amy and the rest of the guides were amazing.
After that I decided to book the north Senegal tour. This was very dissapointing though. I used the internet to find information about the tours they offer and the tour we did had nothing to do with the one they described on their website.
The tour on the website was looking very interesting, a visit to a park in Senegal, snacks on the way, a visit to a traditional village, stop for swimming and lunch, and then after all that back to the border and the ferry. We instead had a very tiring day as transportation in Gambia is a big thing and anyone who has tried the half broken ferry knows what I mean, we just visited the park in Senegal just minutes after the border and then back again to the border and that was it. The safari park itself was not a big deal. We drove for almost 2 hours under the sun in a super dry landscape and spotted a few zebras and antilopes. They said we were lucky we even spotted those! In adittion, these animals were brought from south africa in this park as there are not such animals in west africa. After that we drove back to the border and had lunch in a cafe in the Barra port. The food was ok but the place was not very nice. When we finished lunch they informed us that the ferry would not come and we had to go back by pirogue. It took ages, not that the ferry would be faster, but we spent all day for a 2 hour visit in a park. When I called Arch tours to complain about the the tour which had nothing to do with the one on the website he basicaly said that it was my fault because I didn't have the brochure and that the website has not been updated! He also characteristically said "You've seen a village on the first tour didn't you? It's all the same." He also refused to somehow make up for this. This is not a tour in North Senegal. It's a visit in a not very interesting park in the border, which is not worth the effort and time and money. Unfortunately because of this bad choice of mine I missed other interesting sites as my time there was limited.
The guides are very nice and helpful but the way I was treated on the phone and the wrong info on the website were very unproffesional and unacceptable. Also it would be nice if they had a price list!
