“Good food at the marina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

We ate here while waiting for the late-night Air Tahiti Nui flight to the US. We took a cab from the airport and the same driver agreed to come back for us (and did, right on schedule!). Cab fare was 1500 XPF to the restaurant and 2500 back to the airport as it was night rates.

We arrived during happy hour so each had a couple of drinks. Husband had Mai Tais, which probably had as much alcohol as my caipirinhas but were mixed with a lot of juice in a much larger glass. The pours seemed fine even though HH drinks are half price.

I had a warm goat cheese salad and husband had pasta carbonara. Both were very good (and excellently presented) but there were mushrooms in the pasta and tomato chunks in the salad which we weren't expecting. (Not usually in those recipe, not listed on the menu, something we would have asked to have left off if we had known.) The salad dressing came on the side which was a nice touch.

When we arrived they asked us if we wanted smoking or non-smoking and we said as far away from smokers as possible as Mr. DangerGirl is very sensitive to cigarette smoke. We were outside and I understand how air currents work, but smokers wound up sitting two tables away from us so really--what is the point of asking if it can't be accomodated anyway. This was an issue throughout French Polynesia, because most restaurants are open-air and unless you are upwind of everybody it's tough to get around. We wound up moving inside for dessert, which they were very nice about accomodating--this was a weeknight and the restaurant was nowhere near full.

Dessert was ice cream for husband and creme brulee for me. The creme brulee was good, the texture of the custard was perfect and it was very tasty. The sugar crust was the perfect thickness but the custard was a bit on the warm side so I don't know if it had been made recently or warmed up a little when the sugar was being caramelized. It was a large enough portion that we probably could have shared it if Mr. DangerGirl was as into creme brulee as I am.

“Weekend happy hours at Pink Coconut”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Happy hour at the Pink Coconut, on the outdoor terrace facing the marina, is from 5-7 p.m., with half price drinks, nice assortment of appetizer choices, and great local music. Come early because seating is limited, and service is slow... A nice place to spend waiting time before checking in for a late night flight.

“Pink Coconut”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Great food, horrible service! My wife order a glass of wine nothing came. Food came out, still no wine. So we grab another server, who said that they ran out of the that particular wine. So she order something else. Still no wine. Grab our server, "where's our drinks" "oh yea" finally she got a glass of wine. Time for desert. We ask how long will it take because we need to leave in 20 mins. "no problem, out in 5 mins" so we order sorbert. 15 mins later nothing. So we asked for the check. Check came and the desert, which by now we did not have time to eat. So we had them remove it from the check, whick took a bit of convincing. Really, unfortunate because the a food was great, atmosphere was fun with a cover band...

“Loved it”

Casual restaurant with excellent cuisine, great bar scene and good service. The fish with vanilla sauce was out of this world. Highly recommended!
