“Fantastic Tahiti Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The Manava Suites is an excellent resort. Beautifully kept grounds, warm, friendly and helpful staff, and a fantastic location close to stores and quiet enough for some solitude. I was traveling with two small children, one of them a baby. The kitchen is very well equipped and handy. The front desk will exchange foreign currency for the locally used XPF for a nominal commission. I will be returning to this resort next time I fly through Tahiti.

Room Tip: One simply must have a room close to the lagoon and pool.

We stayed for 2 nights on our way to the outer islands and 1 night when we returned. The suites are large and comfortable. We faced the water side and it was fun to sit and watch the activities on the water and look out to Moorea. The pool is beautiful but best of all , which very few hotels do, it's open 24 hours. That is great for late arrivals or if you just want to cool off in the late evenings or at night. The wifi in the lobby worked great, just to bad it's not extended to the rooms. There is a grocery store just to the left of the property, but closes about 4 pm. We went for our dinners to the roulettes that are open in the evenings. Walk to the left of the property about 10 minutes and you will find them. Don't miss out on this as they are delicious. We enjoyed stayin at the Manava and would stay again.

Room Tip: Just make sure you ask for a room on the upper floors facing Moorea.

This hotel is well situated, being far enough from Papeete to escape any urban feel. At the same time it is a short drive to the airport provided you cope with a road system that can be a bit confusing. We loved the view across the lagoon to the neighbouring island. It is well worth paying the extra for the sea view. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped. It is a bonus that they have cooking facilities and a fridge. The infinity pool is fabulous. There is car parking on site, below the hotel. One word of warning! We found unauthorised daily additions to our bills. On investigation I was told that they were an environmental tax. It seemed strange that we had not been informed of this 'tax' when we paid in advance for the main part of our bill (the room). On further investigation I was informed that this was a voluntary tax. Now, who could begrudge making a financial contribution to helping the environment? Certainly, not us. However, it was unacceptable for the hotel to act in the way it did. One wonders what is going on.

Room Tip: The lagoon view is worth having.

We had 1 1/2 days in Papeete while waiting for a flight to Sydney, and chose the Manava Suites based mostly in price comparison - not inexpensive, but better than some of the other resorts. Our room was in the main reception building - a bit of a walk from the underground parking and the pool, but otherwise fine. The room was quite modern and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom featured a large tub and a separate shower room (though we couldn't understand why they chose stones for the bathroom floor - really hurt your feet while standing under the shower!). The toilet is in a separate room - again, poor choice of design to have a very uncomfortable rectangular toilet seat! The room had a fridge and coffee maker. There is no beach to speak of here, but the infinity pool was lovely as was the lounge area next to the pool bar. Eating choices are very limited and quite expensive - a recommendation to them would be to have a snack menu at the pool bar with some more reasonably priced, lighter options (we ended up going to a small grocery store just down the street). The people at reception were a mixed bag. The person who checked us in was quite disinterested, but others were a bit more helpful. Same for the restaurant - they weren't really interested in providing a good dining experience.

We spent 3 days prior to sailing on the Aranui3 and 1 night after returnig from Bora Bora. We had a standard room, twin beds as we were 2 sisters travelling together. We found the room met our needs as they were abe to split the king size into 2 twins so that was great. Loved the large bathroom with the hugh shower and separate bath tub and appreciated the toilet to be in it's own little room. Having a bar fidge we great as we found a market, Week End, within easy walking distance (about 1 km. to the left when you exit the hotel) and kept some food & chilled wine available. The ifinity pool was lovely, great way to cool down after a long day out and about. The swim up bar was a treat as well. The only downside for me was that there are no decks with the standard room, but all in all we enjoyed our stay there.

By seeing such good reviews we were happy to stay here. Upon arrival we checked into our smoking hot room which wouldn't cool down and the phone didn't work. They sent a technician up to fix the phone but it turned out we had to call the front desk by dialling the hotel number as it wouldn't just connect. He tried three different times but it didn't work. Then we ended up moving rooms as the a/c wasn't working right. The elevators smell very badly!!! In our new room it was nice enough looking but the a/c just didn't keep up!!! We had it at the lowest setting and it never got there, couldn't sleep at all because we were sweating!!!! Also the bed in the master is a couple single mattresses put together to make a big bed. The staff was very friendly which is why I gave 2 stars. I would never stay here again. Upon checkout they also tried charging me for the "local calls" that the tech made from the hotel room but I cleared that up. I also ate at the restaurant which was good but the service was not that great, they are not very attentive to you like in other places I had been. The food however is very good.

This is a good hotel for a stop over in Papeete if you need to wait for a flight or cruise.
Be aware that after 2:00PM there is no food avalaible in the restaurant, only snacks in the bar.
The staff is not very friendly, specially at the restaurant, where it seems that they are in a rush to push you out.
The pool is nice, with a wonderul view. No beach.
The room that we stayed was huge, called Lagoon view or similar. They are located in the third floor. Very clean. My wife complained about the size of the pillows not being confortable for a pleasant sleep (too bulky and hard).
In order to go to the market you need a shuttle bus, there are two per day (at a charge).
I will not reccomend for an extended stay, there are betters places in the islands.
