“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

This pension is greatly located a few kilometres outside Papeete and opposite a nice public beach. Rooms are clean and have a nice kitchenette with a fridge (you'll need it:-). Vincent and his wife are great hosts, and speak English as well. They know Tahiti well and can point out all places to visit on the island. The pool in the middle of the complex is a welcome relieve from the hot days and balmy nights. We spent 5 nights at the pension and would go back in a flash.

Room Tip: You'll need a rental car on Tahiti to get around to see the best spots. Actually, the best of Fr...

This pension is a haven from the traffic and bustle of Papeete. You have to cross a busy road to get to the beach, but it is excellent once you are there. Vincent was charming and helpful with arranging transfers, activities and car hire. The location has the advantage of being out of the city, but we had difficulty with transport ( the buses now stop running at 3pm and alas the 'trucks' are long gone). Vincent helped us to hire a car so that we could experience the roulottes. The place is clean and the kitchenette worked well for us. Shops are just along the road so it is easy and much cheaper to be self-contained. We thought the price was excellent for Papeete. Having a garden to relax in was a bonus.

We had a lovely stay at Pension de la Plage. It catered to people who like to feel the local culture and learn something about Tahiti. The food was excellent, our room was clean and airy and the profusion of flowers in the garden was a bonus. We found the location to be just right for driving anywhere on the island. Highly recommended.

We were meant to stay here 5 nights but I think when things go wrong, they all go wrong and we checked out after only 1. Things started badly just before we left the UK we had an email to say that our booking had been mucked up and we no longer had a room with a kitchenette - not good when you are staying somewhere as expensive as Tahiti. When are prearranged pick up didnt happen and after 3 attempts and an hour waiting we got our own taxi to the hotel to discover Vincent (the owner) wasnt there ( we later discovered his wife was ill but it was all too late by then), we had been put in the worst room (by their own admission) and the decking was having work done to it. HMMMMMM! There is no air conditioning (just a free standing fan - no good with a toddler- and you are expected to leave the door open - again no good with a toddler and an unfenced pool and busy road). The room was clean but at a that point not even a kettle, a good strong shower but the bathroom always smelt of urine. The road to hotel is on is incredibley busy with no pavement to walk on to get to the shops and it felt really scary with lorries thundering past you.

Good points: Vincent when he appeared was delightful - a cot, kettle and a baby bath were provided but when we explained we were checking out due to the previous events he didnt look surprised. He did offer to buy bits and pieces but it was all a bit too late. He seems to run a nice place, his kids 2 & 5 are boisterous and loud but very friendly. His meals seem good value, but we didnt eat there so cant be sure, but if you want to save money in Tahiti you need to self cater and thats what we had wanted to do but couldnt. Also the room ,in our opinion, just wasnt right for a very mobile toddler - but probably perfect if you are just wanting to be out all day and have a bed for the night.

Tips: 1.dont eat the ready meals at the supermarket unless you want food poisoning.
2. If you want to have access to a nice beach do what the locals do - dont go the the public beach opposite. Walk up to Le Meridian and walk straight though past the pool - dont stop they will charge you- and onto the beach there much nicer.

Great hotel!
This is a perfect place for a family vacation or for people who want to escape big hotels crowd and typical service. The rooms are not big but very cute and have everything you need for staying. You will have kitchenette with refrigerator, small stove, microwave, and dishes, everything you need to make breakfast or dinner. I use to have a light breakfast in the morning in tiki-style bar, right in front of my room. They serve fresh beget, coffee, tea, juice, eggs, 2-3 kind of the local fruits, cheese, jam ( local grapefruit, was my favorite). You can eat as much as you want. Or buy some food in the commercial center, what is walk distance from the hotel.
The room has been cleaned every day, towels changed too. The swimming pool cleaned, grounds are good groomed and clean too. You can jump in to the pool right from your private terrace.
The lagoon just across the road (that was actually only one thing I was not happy about, because it is a busy road). The beach is not crowded and I used to take a long walk every morning for kilometers both ways along the beach, and swim after. Water is shallow, no big waves. You can snorkel or canoe right there. I do not even mention the sunsets! Extraordinary!
Good balance between price, service and location. I would definitely recommend this place.
Vincent and Anne-Marie will make everything for you to enjoy your staying in their homey and friendly hotel.

I think this is the best value option on Tahiti. It is XPF 7900 for a single which must be one of the most reasonable accomodations in all of French Polynesia.

With prior reservations, the owner will provide pickup from the airport, which charges only XPF 1000 even though taxis charge 1500 to go anywhere from the airport. The bar and minibar have very conscientious prices at not much more than shop retail. Wifi is XPF 500/day, again one of the best deals in all of Polynesia and the signals are strong.

Meals are offered, XPF 900 for breakfast, 1500 for lunch and 2500 for dinner. I didn't have time to take try them out.

The structure resembles American motels but with luch vegetation and a nice pool in the courtyard. The rooms do not have A/C but it is made to take advantage of the sea breezes so it isn't hot in the rooms. The beach itself is a block away across the main road. Even if you do not have a car, there are shops, restaurants and a supermarket in the immediate vicinity. Overall a highly recommended option, even for a single night of transit on Tahiti.

We only stayed one night but the room we were given was nice and spacious for our family size. It is out of the city centre, that makes it not so interesting if you are staying only a night.
The owners were very helpful.
