We recently stayed at Nakia Dive and Resort for 9 days and LOVED it. Jim and Robin own and run it and they are wonderful company, cooks and hosts. They arranged all of our local travel and recommended places to visit. The food was fantastic, all locally grown and mostly (all?) organic. Madu also cooks for them and made some great curries and chutneys. The resort is beautiful, perfectly situated on a bluff overlooking the Somosomo Strait, conveniently located away from other tourist spots but an easy drive or bike ride to Somosomo, Matei and other towns and dive shops. Our burre was comfortable and private. Jim and Robin are also really wonderful to talk with as you drink afternoon tea on the porch overlooking the grounds and the ocean. They know just about everyone on the island and so can arrange for diving guides, birding guides, hiking guides, taxis, etc. We also feel strongly about eco-travel and supporting hotels that minimize their impact on the local environment and Nakia is leading the way in Taveuni. We can't wait to go back. We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else on Taveuni.
