Paradise Taveuni was the third and final resort we stayed at on a recent trip to Fiji.

On arrival at the airport we were met by a local driver. He informed us that the drive would take about an hour due not to the distance, but the road. The latter part was full of large pot holes which had been worse by recent heavy rains. However, the upside was the number of waterfalls we saw on the way, and the sense of remoteness.

We were met at Paradise Taveuni by staff who quickly whisked away our luggage and others who escorted us through the wonderful grounds to the main building. This housed the bar, reception point and dining room. The latter being open at the front and sides and, as such, offering great views out over the ocean. We were offered cold flannels to wash away the grime of the journey and coconut water, both most welcome and very refreshing. After a quick orientation, we were taken to our Bure and had the first of two complimentary massages. The first was a foot massage, which proved an ideal way to relax after our journey. The second was a 30 minute back and neck massage which we took advantage of the following afternoon.

The other parts of our welcome package were a fruit plate and complimentary sarongs which were laid out on the bed.

The Bure had an ocean view and was large and comfortable. It consisted of three rooms: the bedroom, a sitting room and bathroom, with double sinks and a bath with an overhead shower. In addition, we had an outside shower.

Additional facilities included a fridge with mini bar, kettle and tea/coffee making facilities.

It was great.

We quickly settled in and sorted out our dive equipment ready for collection by the dive centre staff. After filling out the usual information and disclaimer forms, we were ready to start diving the following day having pre-booked a four day (2 dives per day) package.

That evening we enjoyed the first cooked meal of our stay. We had pre-booked a meal package which consisted of breakfast, a one course lunch and a two course evening meal.

The menus changed daily and the food was excellent, as was the service. All the staff from those serving meals, to the dive masters and gardeners were friendly, courteous and quick to offer help.
Over the course of our six night stay, we undertake 10 dives, 8 boat and two shore dives. The shore dive was a real bonus. We saw blue ribbon eels, garden eels, moray, lionfish and lone barracuda to name the highlights.

The boat dives offered us the chance to see wonderful soft corals, turtle, shark and octopus amongst the usual array of aquatic life. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we did not get to dive the famous White Wall, so named because of the prolific soft coral, but that is the unpredictability of diving.

Paradise Taveuni offered a range of other activities and we chose to go on a rainforest walk and a half-day tour. Both proved well worthwhile. The former involved a very wet walk in the company of an amateur wildlife enthusiast. We learned a great deal. On finishing the walk his wife brought out tea, cold drinks and a plate of papaya. We were then invited to join our hosts for a home cooked hot lunch. Wonderful hospitality.

The second trip was undertaken in the company of one of the Paradise Taveuni staff. It included a visit to a blow hole on a rugged bit of coastline, information on the plants and trees we drove past and a walk round the local village where many of the staff, including our guide, lived. We quickly obtained a little entourage of children who wanted to show us things. We also got to meet the village chief.

On our final morning we learned how to weave a basket under the expert tutelage of our guide from our half-day tour. It was an interesting and pleasant way to spend the time before we had to leave for the airport.

Our lasting memories of Fiji will be its people, their warmth and humour, and the spectacular scenery.

When you travel around the world, there are 2 ways of traveling: With style of travel or without it. This is one of the most magic locations I have ever been. (and I have been in many places).
The resort is small, elegant, simply perfect, 100% Paradise.
We stay for 9 days. Each day was full of perfect activities:
Kayaks, National Park, Massage, Fijian Night, Scuba Diving.

If you are a marine biology lover or a scuba diver, this place is one of the most amazing locations to go scuba diving. The dive center is professional and they really don't have to do a very hard work to make you fall in love with the dive sites they offer.

Rainbow Reef was simply AMAZING.

Overall, 10/10 .
We can't complain. Allan and Terri : thanks for the most fantastic vavaction. We had a great, great time.

Now back to reality....

This wonderful resort deserves more than just 5 stars it was fantastic! The perfect combination of a rustic Fijian getaway - but with all of the trimmings!
We stayed a couple of nights at the Sheraton prior to coming to Paridise & can I just say we wish we hadn't and that we had just gone straight there!!
We were purely there for a holiday to relax and get away from general busy life and that is exactly what we did - relaxing by the pool, snorkling right out the front of the resort, drinks by the pool, fishing, spa treatments, romatic dinners under the stars, great food and all with such friendly service.
I have to say I also loved the outdoor bathrooms they were great! Highly recommend staying in one of the ocean front bures and having a spa at night - looking up at the thousand of stars with a glass of wine in your hand!

You are probably in the same position my husband and I were in before we actually got to Fiji- "How do we know where to stay?" Especially for our honeymoon- we wanted it to be perfect. Online pictures never tell the full story. There are great websites of many resorts in Taveuni, but we really struck gold with Paradise. Trust me, Paradise not only fits its name, but redefines what you ever imagined paradise would be. Words do an injustice in trying to capture how amazing the staff and owners are at Paradise. The owners (Allan and Terri) really encourage the staff to become friendly with the guests and expose them to the true Fijian culture. Other hotels are only thinking about making money and train their staff to only talk to you when they can sell you something. The word "genuine" never tasted so sweet- as everything seemed so real- the food was so healthy and naturally delicious, the people were so kind and all of this for no other reason but for you to leave feeling like you were truly in heaven. Allan and Terri made sure there was not a single issue or concern that stood in the way of our experience of complete and utter bliss. In fact, so committed were this couple to our total satisfaction that when we left, due to a wedding party that would be taking over the resort, they called us, while we stayed at a different resort and invited us back to celebrate and share in the wedding festivities! It turns out, Terri had already read my feedback form (which they have all guests fill out upon leaving) and noticed that I so badly wished to have seen a traditional Fijian fire dance show (which was canceled during our stay). Terri and Allan invited us back, to join the private wedding party, as their guests, in order for us to experience such a show. I was in disbelief at the extent they went to ensure our happiness, even after we had left their resort!
And, just so you feel reassured that there's no where better you could possibly stay, I did visit all the other resorts we were consiering, including the more expensive Taveuini Island Resort, which I thought would most definitely be "worth the money." But after Paradise, I was so disappointed in everything else- nothing compared. Nowhere met Paradise's customer service standard and true remote feeling like you are on an island of your own. Don't waste your money on what seems to be a high end resort- go to Paradise and truly experience the warmth, love and richness of the Fijian culture.

And finally- don't bother yourself with the worries others have expressed about the bumpy road that leads to Paradise. In all honesty- its ten minutes of mild unease for absolutely unlimited pleasure. Once you get to Paradise, you have everything you need there... you will not have to travel that road at all until you leave for the airport. You even have nearby villages, like Vuna, that you can visit/walk to. DON'T LET THE BUMPY ROAD PREVENT YOU FROM GOING TO PARADISE... In fact, the few minutes of bumpy road are so bumpy because the resort is at the end of the island, which ads to the more remote, paradise feel, and takes you away from the noise of the busy streets and the aiport.

THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE YOU SHOULD EVEN CONSIDER. Stay in Paradise, and you'll be surpised at how excited you'll be to write a review as soon as you get back. I never imagined having the passion to write a review- this is my first time doing so, and I've traveled the world and stayed at the greatest hotels. That should only show just how serious I am about our incredible experience at Paradise.
