I have to start by saying, there are a couple of bad reviews on here that I didn't understand. We stayed two weeks at the end of May at this stunning resort. They organized our wedding, catered to our needs as best they could, and made sure everything was immaculate on our entire trip.
We arrived at the airport where Thomas (a very wonderful man) picked us up and took us to the resort. They greeted us with a freshly made frozen drink of fruits and juices, a song, and their equivalent of Lei's. Our luggage was taken to our room for us and we spent the first day, snorkeling and getting settled in.
We had the pleasure of doing all of our diving with Jewel Bubble Divers, which we highly recommend. I had to complete my open water certification on location, and Qio (pronounced Geeooo) made sure I was very comfortable for my dives. I completed five total dives there, four for cert, and one for leisure, and would recommend anyone to use Jewel Bubble Divers.
We also did the village tour, horse back riding, island hopping, De Vous Peak tour, golf, deep sea fishing, and the Lavena Coastal Walk. The coastal walk was my favorite by far, as we hiked about 4 miles into along the coast and the river inland. At the end of the walk, we jumped from a set of waterfalls, one 15ft high, and one 40 feet high. It was incredible.
The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I already miss all of them. Rick and Do, the owners, Ann, the receptionist, Sai, Harry, Robert, Joe, Paulo, Peter, Loata, Maureen, and all the others I may have forgotten. Paulo and Peter drove us everywhere we needed to go and became some of our best friends while there. Joe, Harry, Peter, and Robert introduced us to Kava, a local traditional drink, and we sang with them almost every night while they played instruments.
The food was not great, but very good. You have to be open minded and understand that it's a different culture. They used local products and recreated dishes very nicely. Bar and room drinks are a little pricey so I suggest stopping at the Duty Free at the airport and loading up if you drink.
One of the first things that bothered us was that we were on time for excursions, but the guides were not. We quickly learned what "Fiji Time" is and realized, we were there to relax and enjoy ourselves. You have to take yourself off of American (or wherever else you may be from) time and just enjoy life there. It makes the trip that much more worthwhile.
Our accommodations were immaculate, and the staff would sneak into our rooms and prepare our rooms while we were at dinner. We would come back to find the A/C on, the bed turned down, the canopy draped over the bed, and the lights dimmed. It was amazing. I also noticed that unless you were at a meal or looking for the staff, the stayed out of sight. Everything was prepared nicely, and you often wondered how it happened. It was a nice touch to feel like they were a step ahead of or behind you.
Our wedding was organized by Eunice and the staff there. They were very creative and imaginative. It was at sunset down on the beach and absolutely perfect.
All in all, it was a magical trip that far exceeded our expectations. It is world class accommodations with small family feel. We loved every minute of our stay and wish we could have stayed even longer. Please take a once in a lifetime stop by Taveuni Island Resort. If we get the chance to go again, we absolutely will.
