My recent return to Taveuni, this time with my family after being away for thirteen years, gave us an opportunity to dine at Coconut Grove's restaurant. It was an opportunity we indulged in several times during our two week stay on the island. Thirteen years ago the food was great at Coconut Grove, and it still is. Ronna, the owner of Coconut Grove Beach Bungalows and associated restaurant is still there, and has been since the early 1990s when she started up the place. So is her head cook - Bibi. Fijian of Indian descent, Bibi make fabulous curries, fabulous roti, fabulous everything. The best on the island - better than what you will find in Suva. The organic garden on the premises assures you the salads, and many other ingredients in the restaurant are of top quality. Furthermore, the fact that Bibi has been there for over two decades tells you that Coconut Grove's vision is one of sustained high quality.
There is only outside seating on a covered deck with a beautiful view over the beach and ocean. No air conditioning, but overhead fans. Ocean breeze is not infrequent.
No electronics (laptops/iPads etc) in the dining area please. Coconut Grove Bungalows does not allow kids (to stay in the bungalows) but the restaurant does allow well behaved kids to eat in there.
Breakfast and lunch are served until 2pm. If you're planning on having dinner, please make reservations by 2pm or so.
