“Winter retreat to the sun for a newly retired couple..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Decided to get some sun after a demoralizing winter and spent two weeks at the Sonesta Beach Resort, it was a delight. The hotel was lovely, the views across the Gulf of Aqaba were seriously stunning, the beach (obviously imported from the nearby desert) a sun bathers delight.
The staff made the holiday though as they couldn't do enough to please, you were met with a smile and a greeting from everyone and made you seriously welcome. Serious praise has to be given to the young made who made up our room, as he must have gained the world record for the variety of ways you can style towels into lovely works of art; it was a race to return to our room between the two of us.
The food was seriously good realizing that there were usually less than 25 customers there at any one time, it was mainly international fare with some Egyptian dishes and we enjoyed it all. The baked beans were nothing to write home about, but someone would have liked them. Food is often a matter of personal or national taste, but if you're willing to give it a go its fine. The staff were conscious of the need to please and often asked if they could cook something we would prefer, so steak and chips was presented one day - serious service!
The entertainment staff were good also.
We basically enjoyed the rest, some sun bathing and swimming; with one trip out snorkeling to enjoy the coral reefs. If you want much more, such as towns with shopping, night life etc - it isn't there.
What we remember of many of our holidays, are the people that we meet and the staff at this hotel made this simple holiday memorable

Room Tip: We only stayed in one room, but the north facing rooms do not get the sun - obviously; good in the s...

Dear Sabi_w4,

Thank you for your comments and feedback about your stay at our hotel , I Just like to know when was your stay as I see from the date on the photos that it was back in 2009 and we did renovations for our rooms last year so it is not how they look now . Also I asked the doctor at the hotel and he mentioned that he did not had any patients since last month . So please let me know the period so I can do more investigation . Thank you

Well what can we say - Sonesta Hotel – thank you so much for making our stay such a memorable and enjoyable one, we went on 29 January 2013 returning on 5 February 2013 - and I must 7 days was not long enough.

Lovely people, lovely hotel, quiet location – perfect for us!! Would say that some people would find this hotel too quiet but I think that the quietness was due to the time of year, problems in Cairo (don't be put off by this Cairo is 6 hours away) and the current recession.

The hotel staff were so kind and couldn’t do enough to make our stay pleasurable. And as it was so quiet we practically had one on one service.

Some of the reviews gave it a non too favourable evaluation, however I can assure you that the rooms were spotlessly clean albeit a little tired in areas, we had a change of sheets and towels every day and a number of different towel sculptures throughout the week (thank you Younan), the space in the rooms is very good, so if like us you are on a budget and don’t want to upgrade to a larger room or suite the rooms are perfectly adequate.

The food was very nice, fresh and there was always something to eat which was very tasty with a menu which changed daily (my Mother is extremely fussy and eats like a bird but on this holiday there was always something for her to eat), the waiters looked after us so well continually asking if everything was okay, could they get us anything else and because it was so quiet one evening we actually had waiter service at the table.

Some of the restaurants were closed but Adel and his staff opened them on differing days to allow us access to all areas - breakfast by the beach was particularly nice and made a change from having in the main restaurant.

I would like to say a special thanks to all of the staff in particular, Adel, Essam, Mahmed, Mostafa, Ghali, Garrah, Ebrahim, Baghrat – but on the whole all of the people who looked after us were fantastic from the reception team, restaurant, bar, animation and housekeeping team. The animation team were great always happy and cheerful especially when trying to rally the troops, but they did it with such grace and lovely attitude that we felt quite mean saying no!!

All of the teams appear work exceedingly long hours but remained cheerful throughout the day.

I would like to mention for future travellers, please visit the spa and have a ‘Cleopatra’ massage very nice, visit the perfume shop and buy some pure perfume – lovely and long lasting. No need for beach towels or hairdryer as the ones supplied by the hotel are adequate, make sure you take a double electrical adaptor if you have a lot of electrical equipment to charge – limited electric sockets.

My only gripe would be (as you always have to have at least one negative for the staff to work on) if you are big drinkers (alcoholic variety) you may want to think about how fast the drinks are served – wasn’t too much of a problem for us but I think it could be when the hotel is at capacity.

We will definitely be returning – hopefully as a group!!

Kindest regards and many thanks

Tracey, Margaret, Lynn and Josie xxxx

Lovely hotel. Rest in November 2012. Loved it. Large landscaped area, a clean room, a spacious restaurant, a nice beach, fun animations. Liked best about attentive, friendly and helpful staff that their smiles creating a good mood. Thank cooks. Great buffet. A large variety of food, lots of fruit. -Little shops. The best "Moment Bazar" on the beach. Thank Yoniss and Loka. They excellent guys, attentive and polite with all tourists, helped always. Without them, the vacation would not be so good. I think that all tourists to communicate with them, remember them and miss them. A lot of products at good prices. Possible even place an order. I will recommend the hotel to all my friends. I hope to come again. Thank you for the wonderful holiday.

Hello!
I would like to say "Thank's a lot" to all staff of Sonesta Taba.
I spent my vacations in your hotel in 2010 and in November of 2012.
Hotel was very nice in 2010 and it became better now. It is very beautiful, food is great, all staff is very polite.
There are good shops in the hotel, I bought nice presents for my friends. I hope to visit Sonesta Taba in 2013, have a good vacation and buy Egyptian carpet and Marmaria in Yoniss's Moment Bazar.
Unfortunately, his shop is not inside of hotel, I hope it will be near Sonesta Taba in 2013. Yoniss and Loka are hospitable and hearty as staff of hotel.
Thank you!

We were there in september 2012 for 1 month. First impressions were really good and we were impressed with both the size and cleanliness of the room. We were disappointed that most trips had been cancelled due to troubles in Egypt. The hotel was in a very pitoresque place but also isolated with nowhere to walk to outside. We had wanted a relaxing beach holiday so this did not concern us too much. We also found that due to the low season, the hotel was not full and therefore some restaurants and bars had been closed. However, we still had two to choose from. The food was very good and I want to give a compliment to the executive chef from the kitchen Mahmoud Tayea or Taia. What made the holiday so fantastic was the combination of a beautiful beach surrounded by mountains, peace and tranquility, which we may not have got if it was peak season, and the hotel staff. From managers through to cleaners, we were treated brilliantly. The staff could not do enough for us and went out of their way to ensure we had the most perfect holiday. Which I have to say they succeeded, we had great company and conversation in the evenings from staff and were treated like celebrities at all times. I can recommend this hotel for its outstanding service and cannot fault the staff. If it's a quiet, relaxing beach holiday with good company in the evenings you want then I highly recommend this hotel. I will be returning in September 2013 when possible .
