We booked two weeks at ROBB after reading reviews here and getting some personal recommendation as well.
Over all we were very impressed and agree with pretty much all the previous reviews.
Here are our views and tips for anyone planning to stay here.
We stayed in Room 2132, quite close to the entertainment arena, but it finished at 1030pm so didn't keep us awake. Had we had children with us, it might have been a problem.
Don't worry about taking shampoo and shower gel. The hotel supplied stuff is fine, and you'll save some weight on your luggage allowance too.
Ours was regularly topped up by the room boy so we never went short.
The rooms are a little dated decor wise and the bathroom could have done with a refurb, but everywhere was very clean, and at the end of the day how long do you spend in your room anyway?
We found the food to be excellent all round. Breakfast in the Sea Breeze was a bit hit and miss as regards service but the views made up for that and the choice and quality was always good.
We didnt use the French a la carte as we didnt feel the need. Our favourite was Kababgi, the local cuisine option. We went there on 4 occasions including for our wedding anniversary celebration. Our waiter, Mahmoud, looked after us brilliantly every time. No need to book here either. The Italian was also very good, but you need to book early to avoid disappointment. Ali, our waiter, was charming on all three of our visits. The fish restaurant also needs to be booked but wasn't as popular as the Italian. The main buffet restaurant has a good selection of dishes, but we only used it once in the evening, choosing to snack on the excellent fish and chips when we weren't at one of the a la carte restaurants.
The bar waiters are also very good, but some seem more friendly than others. Many thanks to Hosainy and Azram at the Horizon bar for their excellent service around the Infinity pool. Our favourite drinks were noted and brought to us even when we didnt ask for them!
The adults only relax pool is a great idea, and it was peaceful,but the pool is not heated and is very cold.
The Leisure pool was closed for maintenance until three days before we left, but we did have a go on the slides which are good fun.
The infinity pool was heated while we were there but it isn't in summer apparently.
We did some excursions while we were there. We booked a snorkelling trip with the hotel dive club, but picked a day when the sea was quite rough to the point where we didnt feel confident going into the water. I would recommend sticking to the hotel reef unless you are an experienced snorkeller or a strong swimmer.
We also did a submarine trip, which was very good but not if you are claustrophobic.
The best trip we did was the Thomson Sinai by Starlight. Very enjoyable and a must do. Do take sensible shoes and something warm to wear, as the terrain is rough and the temperature drops after sunset.
Also we bought the DVD of the trip. Don't! It was awful. I could have done better myself.
We must mention the animation team, who are full of fun and energy and put on some great shows. Thanks to Alessia, Nino and Linda especially.
The on site shops have some real characters. Clearly they want you to buy their stuff, but don't hassle you and are friendly.
We came back with some lovely paintings which we commissioned from Yasser and his team. We were able to watch them being painted each time we passed the shop. Very talented guys.
We also formed a friendship with young Ahmed at the Trinket shop, and he regularly made us mint tea in his shop.
A couple of final things. The resort is large and has some slopes and steps to contend with which could prove a problem for those less mobile.
Having said that, there is a bus running round the complex and golf buggies to assist.
The grounds are treated twice a day at 5am and 5pm with mosquito spray so try to be indoors at these times as the smell is quite acrid, but it works as the Mosquitos didnt bother us at all.
Overall a great holiday and we are likely to return to ROBB in the future.
