Family of four (Children aged 2 and 4) travelled Oct 24th.
Our travel to Sharm was great. No delays and no waiting whatsoever for baggage after only a short queue at passports/ customs.
We were swiftly directed to a small transfer minibus for our onward travel the Nubian Island Hotel.
On arrival at the hotel we received a welcome drink and check-in was very fast, with our baggage sent ahead to our room.
Our room allocation was incorrect. I had booked a two bedroom bungalow and was allocated a one bed version. Even though I had an email from the Nubian Island to confirm two bedroom (I always reconfirm bookings with hotels when using an operator to ensure all details are correct) they would not change this. Luckily GG, the Thomson / First Choice rep was onsite and he quickly corrected this error. I’m afraid, even though I had an email from the hotel, the reception’s unwillingness to correct this mistake when the hotel was so under occupied did not show a very high customer service level.
Beware – if you are a family of four then the one bedroom bungalows are not worth it. With this number of beds it was severely cramped (wardrobe couldn’t even be opened). Our friends who arrived a couple of days earlier were in the main building and the more square design of their room would accommodate the extra beds better. However, the two bedroom bungalow was brilliant! Loads of space. The lighting could be improved a little perhaps. The aircon in the kids bedroom was a small unit – very efficient and quiet, but the main unit used to cool the main bedroom, entrance, and bathroom was noticeably a little noisy. There is no tea / coffee facilities as standard, but can be requested from reception. There is a fridge provided too. The beds!! Well if you’ve read the previous reviews you’ll already know they are hard…..they’re really hard! The mattress toppers which can be requested (which I think are just an extra duvet under the bottom sheet) didn’t help me much, but was an improvement from not there at all. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom - My wife always packs hers, but the supplied one was very capable (so she said!)
So, we got passed this room allocation hitch within the first hour thanks mainly to the Thompson rep GG - from that moment on the holiday was absolutely fantastic!
We only ever used the top “English” pool. Top marks to Morsey at the pool bar for seeing to our drinks, ice cream and crisps needs – a great guy. The other pool had loud music playing and was more geared up for water games, so we never used it. The pool felt a little cold getting in, but once in it was fine.
We had two towel guys whilst we were there – Mohamad and another chap (name slips my mind). Both were brilliant in getting our sunbeds sorted in the mornings and for providing us with the “Do not disturb” signs to ward off the annoying excursion people. Kate from animation would stop by for a chat every day. A very hard working pleasant girl who tried to encourage us to come and watch their shows, but these usually started at about 9.30pm so too late for the kids to stay up.
The main restaurant always had a great selection of food, with something for everyone I’m sure. I wouldn’t say the food was the best I’ve had, but there was always something that caught my eye and when I returned from the buffet to my table my plate was always piled embarrassingly high! (I always ate the lot though) The puds were great too – big selection.
We went to the Italian restaurant a couple of times. The first time was great, but to be honest on the second visit we’d all tried / seen what the al-a-carte menu had to offer and realised we’d get better choice from the main restaurant. From reading previous reviews I’d expected more from this restaurant – I think we were all a little disappointed!
We didn’t use the beach sunbeds, although they all looked in relatively good condition. The sea at paddling depth was great for our kids to see the fish – don’t forget to take aqua shoes for the sharp stones / coral, or buy them from the shops across the road. In the shallows we tempted the fish in with some bread from the supermarket and the amount of brightly coloured fish around your legs was amazing – our kids loved it. We never snorkelled off the pier as it was too rough, although from what I could see of the reef from there I think it would have been amazing. No loss though as I never really expected to do it with having such small kids with us.
On a couple of days I took my 4 yr old boy over to the Nubian Village to the slides – he loved them, both the big ones and the small kiddie ones. The big ones are very fast and I loved them too – but both me and a friend lost skin off our elbows! Ouch!
The walk to and from our bungalow was quite frankly beautiful, through wonderfully tended gardens and streams with a myriad of different coloured flowers lining the paths. A little dark a night, but we never got lost!
Now in previous reviews people had stated the mozzies were no problems…..this was far from our experience! My wife and the other two adults in our group were bitten lots and they were nasty really itchy bites, this was despite putting deet stray on before going out in the evening. The hotel sprayed around the gardens / vegetation every evening though so they are trying to keep them at bay. Other families experienced the same and the swapping of remedies on checkout day showed the good old British spirit to help each other.
This was an absolutely fantastic holiday – please read my comments as a guide only and by no means a criticism to a wonderful hotel. The staff were amazing. Our drinks were always topped up and they were wonderful to our children. The staff are a real credit to the hotel.
Would I return – absolutely!
BUT sort your Wi-Fi out! £20 and it’s hopeless!
We paid for late checkout of room – In our opinion the 55Euro (charged at £46) was well worth it.
Thanks all at the Nubian Island – we loved our stay and would like to say a big THANKS for treating us perfectly!
The two bedroom bungalows are fantastic

Your comments definitely help to those guests who are going to us. Especially with remedies against mosquitoes. Also for 4 pax a family bungalow is better than just bungalow.
Pleasant to know that you will come again.
