“if you want relaxation go here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

we have just returned from our 10th stay at this hotel (the last time was in oct 2010). we keep coming back because of the staff and for just chilling out.
the entertainment is really still pretty poor, and although it was not really a problem for us it will be for others as they are expecting more british guests to come in the future. i have also said in previous reviews that if you have walking difficulties then you will have a problem as they have no lift in the hotel and you would need to ask for a room near the main building.
thanks again to all the staff for looking after us as usual especially wassim in reception, taman in lobby bar and ahmed in top pool bar but there are so many to mention.
we will be back and as i have said if you just want total relaxation then please go to nubian island.

My partner and I both loved this holiday. This was week two of a two week 'cruise and stay' holiday booked (very last minute) with Thomson. Our first week was spent on the 'Red Sea Cruise' on the Thomson Celebration (also highly recommended) where we got the most out of the opportunity to go on excursions including; Wadi Rum, Petra, Cairo and Luxor (phew!). So we were both looking forward to a relaxing second week which we got! We spent a lot of time by the 'quiet pool' (day and night!), on the beach and had a course of spa treatments.
My partner is gluten free and he informed the Thomson rep who then introduced him to the Head Chef, Mr Odea, who took time to show him the dishes he could eat and on a few occasions even bought him special dishes he could eat. He was very happy to discover the local beer was wheat free!
We did a couple of excursions; VIP Cruise (very good) and the Market Mayhem (just a trip out to the local shops at night in a group). Our independent trip to Naama Bay was better, chech out the rooftop Camel Bar, very good bar experience.
The staff at Nubian Island are excellent, all very friendly. A very relaxing and enjoyable holiday, recommended.

Room Tip: We had a room right by the quiet pool which was very well situated and handy for everything.

Unfortunatley I would have put on a very good review but for a very bad incident. But let us start with the positives.Food very good & British guests get special dishes some evenings served by the waiters who were all very good & you can even speak to the Head Chef.We stayed in a bungalow room (922) which had two bedrooms & private garden very spacious but no tea & coffee making facilities although you can hire a kettle.Animation Team are new & they are slowly settling in, shows in evening are the usual BGT there is a lot of Russians at the Hotel (400) when we stayed only 40 Brits so give Karoke a miss!! Kassandra sings a varation of songs in the main bar most evenings as well.Special thanks also to( Doncaster Jack,Vako and Kassandra part of Animation Team)
Now the Negative.
On our ninth night out of eleven I noticed an item clothing missing missing from the draw I reported this incident to reception that evening & to the Thomson Rep in the morning @ 08.30.We then had breakfast & was returning to the room @ 09.50 where we noticed several people in our room who produced the item stating they found it between the two single beds on the floor. They had not informed us or the Thomson Rep of this procedure was to be carried out. This was not an isolated incident which had occured during our stay other guests had simular situations as well & when reported the items reappear when you are not in the room.So my Tip is when you return from your holiday or before just check you have all your items. The outcome of this is of course is denial !!! Even when I reported this to the General Manager there was no apology.

Room Tip: Choose Family Bungalows

I think my previous three reviews over the last 18 months (search under my name) cover everything. I think food has improved, but still great. The staff are still excellent. A perfect, relaxing fortnight.
The only fault may be the dated TVs in bungalows or dated loungers at quiet pool.
The snorkeling from the hotel jetty is great and everyone should try. This is a youtube video of my underwater adventures at the Nubian.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

Just back from a 1 week stay at this hotel. (1 week starting from the 19th April 2013) We went for a relaxing break and we got just that!

ROOM

Rooms are clean, very spacious and they have a good powerful shower with LOTS of hot water (not a shower thats more like a drip!). Beds are a little hard but everyone has their own preference. (This explains the Room being 4 out of 5 as you can't score 4.5 out of 5)

FOOD

Both of us are fairly fussy eaters and we were pleased to read the very positive reviews on this hotel. In most all inclusive I am not a fan of the "main resturants" but this was not the case in the Nubian Island. The Hotel also has tables outside the main resturant allowing you to eat by the pool by candlelight with waiter service for drinks!.

The food is excellent with much choice for all tastes. Many nights they have chefs cooking fresh prawns, koftas, Egyptian kebab style wraps all very tasty food. We have also been to Egypt (Hurghada) twice before and was not a fan of the local wine but not the case here the wine was very drinkable indeed. Another review on here mentioned about the deserts were good and they were! Lots of choice inlcuding mini chocolate fudge cakes!

Lunch in the Barracuda Resturant was a real suprise... freshly cooked tuna in front of you, fresh pasta cooked in your own preference of sauce (you tell the chef what you want), freshly grilled crab, beef fillet (like a steak) in peppercorn sauce.... just really good food. All washed down with a cool bottle of Luxor Beer!.

WINE TIP!!

We found that there are 2 types of wine. There is wine from the bottle or wine from the box. The wine from the box is from the main resturant other bars are from the bottle. Find out what you want then you can request the wine you want. The waiters will ensure you get the wine you want!

STAFF

The staff are very freindly too! Firstly the pool boys can't do enough to help you welcoming you at the start and end of each day with friendly banter throughout the day. Wahid, Mustafa and Samuel should get a special mention.

The animation team work hard too offering various activities throughout the day... we got very good a Botcha. Special mentions to Jack (English Man), Alex, Sam and Vako. We spent time talking to them in the Lobby bar after the show had finished and it was nice to learn about them as induviduals and vice versa. Great team of people always making sure you are happy and you are enjoying your holiday.

THE RUSSIANS!

This may suprise you but we met many Russians who were lovely. One a small family others as couples. We all played Botcha and communicated with claps and some type of sign language. I would imagine you get rude people from all countries (Dare I say it even England!) but our experiences were fine.

LIKE TO PARTY?

If you like to party you have the uptown bar in the hotel or the animation team will accompany you to the Hard Rock Cafe on a Thursday night.

We booked this hotel last minute and it being a 4* or 4*+ I was a little hesitant however we are already thinking about going back this Oct. We met a English lady on our last day who was on her 4th visit.

The hotel has lovely gardens with streams and lots of wildlife (Butterflies, Birds e.t.c).

If you are after a holiday with great food and drink, with friendly staff and annimation team then book this hotel!. Every guest we spoke too couldn't really complain.

SUMMARY

In all great hotel, great food, great drink, great staff and transfer from the hotel is only about 10-15 mins!.

We went with Thomson holidays.

We are hoping to go back in October this year (which if you knew us it means this hotel is pretty good!)

Steve and Lisa

Room Tip: We stayed in room 555, lovley view of the relax pool....

We stayed here for 3 nights after a cruise around the Red Sea and if I am honest, I would have looked into moving if we had stayed for much longer. Food was average and lukewarm, however on 2 of the 3 nights we did get a "Brit Special" brought to our table which was massively better than the limited selections on the buffet counters. The food would have been better if it was hot and not been sitting for long periods and not topped up. Breakfast was poor. The rooms were excellent, although the bed was quite hard, but massive!!! Bit of a trek to the beach and lots of steps down to it which was a bit of an issue as one of our party struggles on stairs. Staff were excellent though and so friendly. They clearly preferred the British and non-Russian guests as we made an effort to interact with the staff and tipped them and were polite. Sadly other guests didn't.... Would I go back? Possibly, but after our experience in the sister hotel (Nubian Village) next door, I'd much much rather go there than the Nubian Island resort. Could do with more staff in the bars though

Room Tip: 932 was nice and about mid-way between the beach and the main building where the main restaurant is...
